in the area "Digital Integration: The Role of Digitalization in Social Inclusion" at the new "German Internet Institute for the Networked Society" in Berlin, Germany

 

The German Internet Institute for the Networked Society and Chair for Business Informatics, esp. Social media and Data Science at the University of Potsdam in Germany (Prof. Hanna Krasnova) invite applications for a Doctoral Position in the research group "Digital Integration: The Role of Digitalization in Social Inclusion".

 

The German Internet Institute for the Networked Society will study the interplay of Digital Transformation and Society, starting Sept. 15, 2017 in Berlin. The Berlin-Brandenburg consortium is led by Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) and funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). Beside WZB, it includes Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Berlin University of the Arts, Technische Universität Berlin, University of Potsdam and Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS). The objective of the Internet Institute will be to analyze the changes of society along the ongoing digital transformation and to outline options for political and economic actions. Interdisciplinary research and cooperation across social, economic, and legal sciences with design research and computer science will be the main focus of the Berlin-Brandenburg consortium. Basic research and the exploration of concrete solutions in open labs will be combined with knowledge transfer to politics, business and society.

 

***Terms of employment***

 

The starting date for this position is 1st of December or later. This position has a workload of 30 hours per week (75%, TV-L13) and is limited till 14.09.2020. The availability of the position is contingent on the funding by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Re-search. The terms of employment are governed by §2.1 of the Science Employment Law (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).

 

***Research Focus***

 

This position is linked to the research group "Digital Integration", which will focus on the following research areas:  

- Effects of digitalization on integration processes, especially in the context of refugees

- The role of social media in the social inclusion of refugees

- Impact of digitalization on individual perceptions of social inclusion

- The role of digitalization in the bridging of religious and cultural differences

- The role and design of digital education in the context of refugees

- Human-computer interaction in the context of integration processes.

 

***Requirements***

 

- Master Degree (or equivalent) in Information Systems, Business Administration / Economics, Social Sciences or Psychology (GPA above average)

- In-depth knowledge of methods of qualitative and / or quantitative research

- Advanced English skills (both oral and written)

- Interest in the area of "Digital Integration"

- Interest in research / analytical work

 

***Responsibilities***

 

- Research in the area of "Digital Integration"

- Literature review and analysis

- Conceptualization of research design and data collection (observations, interviews, focus groups, experiments, surveys, longitudinal studies)

- Data analysis

- Presentation and publication of research results;

- Participation in collaborative | group activities

- Interest in interdisciplinary research cooperation

- High sense of responsibility 

- Ability to work independently and in a team

- Knowledge of German or interest to learn German

- Willingness to travel
