Job Announcement: Assistant Professor – Privacy/Information Security

The Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking outstanding candidates for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in Privacy/Information Security starting in Fall 2018.



The Heinz College

The Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University is home to two top ranked schools: the School of Information Systems and Management and the School of Public Policy and Management. The College was awarded the UPS George D. Smith Prize for educational excellence in Analytics and is the only academic institution that has won both the Von Neumann Theory Prize for research and the UPS Prize for educational excellence from INFORMS. The College is a center of excellence on issues that span people, policy, and technology research, and has deep strengths in combining data science with decision science and social science. The Information Systems, Information Security, and Public Policy programs aspire to educate men and women of intelligent action who use technology and analytics to solve important societal problems.



The Position

The successful candidate will conduct outstanding research in Privacy and/or Information Security and will contribute to our excellence in multi-disciplinary research at the intersection of data science, social science, and decision science. We are seeking candidates with strong backgrounds in one of a variety of possible fields (including Information Systems, Economics, Engineering, Decision Research, Organizational Behavior, Computer Science, or Information Security) who are interested in investigating topics at the overlaps of privacy/information security, social science, and policy. Analytical and/or empirical quantitative backgrounds are particularly desirable, and so is the ability to collaborate with other scholars and units on campus on interdisciplinary research. The successful candidate will publish in leading peer-reviewed academic journals and/or conference proceedings; teach graduate and undergraduate courses and mentor students; secure extramural research federal funding; and contribute to school/college/university service. In addition to working in the top-ranked School of Information, the successful candidate will be able to interface with numerous privacy, security, and behavioral research centers associated with CMU, including CERT, CyLab, CUPS, PeeX, CBDR, and the CMU PwC Risk and Regulatory Services Innovation Center; as well as numerous security and privacy programs on campus, including the Master in Information Security and Management and the Master in Privacy Engineering.



Requirements

• Holds a Ph.D. in one of the following or related fields: Information Systems, Economics, Engineering, Decision Research, Organizational Behavior, Computer Science, or Information Security

• Strong research skills and focus on publishing in leading academic journals and/or conference proceedings

• Commitment to high quality education

• Focus on securing extramural federal funding
