                   - Standards for a Smarter Future -

                            13 - 15 June 2018

Organised by
The European Academy for Standardisation (EURAS)
The National Standards Authority of Ireland

Hosted by
Dublin City University

Standards will play a key role in ensuring a smarter future for all European businesses and citizens. In the context of the Digital Single Market, the EU has prioritised the following 5 ICT areas for standardisation - Cyber Security, 5G, IoT, Cloud and Big Data. Additive Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Augmented/Virtual Reality have also recently become a focus area for international standards development.

The 'Digital Transformation' of traditional industries and businesses across all sectors is now a top priority for governments and companies across Europe and worldwide - as they try to understand how these emerging technologies could transform enterprise and labour markets. Risks and concerns include cyber security, data privacy, job displacements and digital skills deficits. In this 'smart digital future', standards will be critical in order to ensure interoperability, security and safe human-centred solutions for all businesses and communities.

EURAS 2018 solicits papers on the above theme. However, papers on other standardisation topics will also be considered. Sample topics include:

- Standardisation of reference architectures and for systems engineering.
- Standardisation of converging technologies.
- Smart standardisation.
- Standardisation roadmaps.
- Standardisation and Open Source.
- Standards as a policy tool.
- Standards and barriers to trade.
- National or international policy and standardisation.
- Standardisation and Europe's research and innovation agenda.
- Relation between standardisation and legislation.
- Standards as a driver for innovation.
- Standardisation and quality infrastructure.
- Legal aspects of standardisation.
- Standards and knowledge transfer.
- The impacts of standards and standardisation.
- Quality of standards.
- Role of industry and their associations in standardisation.
- Standardisation via industry consortia.
- History of standardisation.
- Standardisation processes.

Full papers (up to 30 double spaced pages; rtf. .doc or .docx format) should be submitted to Kai Jakobs at kai.jakobs at cs.rwth-aachen.de.

All papers will be double blind reviewed by members of the Technical Programme Committee. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, as part of the 'EURAS Contributions to Standardisation Research' book series. Particularly good papers will be fast-tracked to the Int. Journal of Standardization Research.
