Applications are invited for a Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher in the State Street Advanced Technology Centre

The State Street Advanced Technology Centre @ University College Cork (UCC) focuses on emerging and cutting edge technologies and how they impact upon the financial services industry. The research centre’s objective is to undertake research which has significant business impact.

The Advanced Technology Centre currently houses 18 MSc, PhD and Post-Doctoral researchers. Applications are sought for a Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher to work on  cognitive computing and blockchain research.

Post duration: up to 12 months initially subject to satisfactory performance, and may be extended thereafter.
Salary: €44,000

The Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher will be hosted in The Advanced Technology Centre. Under the guidance of the centre director, the Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher will work on cognitive computing and blockchain.  Applicants are invited from those with a PhD qualification, prior post-doctoral experience and publications in a directly relevant area.

SENIOR POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER
This is an advanced role. The primary purpose of the role is to deliver research results and to interact in the supervision and mentorship of graduate students, in conjunction with an academic supervisor.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  *   To conduct and lead a specified programme of research under the supervision and direction of the State Street Advanced Technology Centre director.
  *   To engage in the dissemination of the results of the research, as directed by and with the support of the centre director
  *   To interact closely with postgraduate research students who are studying for a Masters or a PhD and have an agreed role in supporting these students in their day to day research in conjunction with the supervisor or supervision team.
  *   To conduct administrative and management work associated with the research centre.
  *   To engage directly with State Street by assisting in the management of the research centre
  *   Dual reporting line: local reporting to Dr. Philip O’Reilly, University College Cork and matrix reporting to Brian McCabe, Managing Director, State Street
  *   Translating State Street business requirements, needs and expectations into the centre by managing students to meet core KPIs of centre
  *   To carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

CRITERIA

  *   A PhD qualification in computer science or closely related field.
  *   Extensive research competence and experience in cognitive computing and/or virtual reality.
  *   Appropriate technical competence and accomplishment in the domains.
  *   Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
  *   Experience of working within a project team and ideally with industry partners to achieve results.
  *   Supervisory skills and leadership potential.
  *   Experience of applying for and securing funding.
  *   Please note that Garda vetting and international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.
