Apologies for Multiple postings....

---------------------------------------------

Dear colleagues,

Below please find the Call-For-Papers and publication options of
EMMSAD'2018. EMMSAD’2018 is a two-day working conference on exploring
modeling methods for systems analysis and development, organized in
conjunction with CAISE. This year the conference will held on June 11-12
2018, Tallinn, Estonia.

We especially want to bring to your attention that this year we will award
the best paper and all candidates for this award will be invited to submit
enhanced versions for consideration in a special issue of Software and
System Modelling (SoSyM) journal. Last year we invited seven papers for a
special issue of SoSyM – all seven papers are currently under review.

We wait for your submissions and hope to meet many of you in Tallinn.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with further questions and comments.

Regards,

Iris, Sérgio, Wided, and Palash

International Conference on Exploring Modeling Methods for Systems Analysis
and development

The 23rd edition of the EMMSAD series, held in conjunction with CAiSE’18

11-12 June 2018, Tallinn, Estonia

Submission deadline: March 1st, 2018

*Background and Aims*:

The field of information and software systems development has resulted in a
rich heritage of modelling approaches (e.g. business process modelling,
enterprise modelling, value modelling, capability modelling, ontology
modelling, and so on). This canon of approaches continuous to be enriched
with extensions, refinements, and even new languages, to deal with new
challenges. Even with some attempts to standardize (e.g. UML for
object-oriented software design, ArchiMate for enterprise architecture
modelling, and BPMN for business process modelling), new modelling methods
are constantly being introduced, especially in order to deal with emerging
trends such as compliance and regulations, cloud computing, big data,
business analytics, the internet of things, cyber-physical systems, etc.
These introduce challenges to modeling as well: scalability, privacy,
security, and performance – to list a few, and may call for extending
existing modelling methods or developing new ones. These ongoing changes
significantly impact the way systems are being analyzed and designed in
practice.

Evaluation of modelling methods contributes to the knowledge and
understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. This knowledge may guide
researchers towards the development of the next generation of modelling
methods and help practitioners select the modelling methods most
appropriate to their needs. A variety of empirical and non-empirical
evaluation approaches can be found in the literature: feature comparison,
meta-modelling, metrics, paradigmatic analyses, contingency identification,
ontological evaluation, surveys, laboratory and field experiments, case
studies, and action research. Yet, there is a paucity of such research in
the literature.

The objective of the EMMSAD conference series is to provide a forum for
researchers and practitioners interested in modelling methods for Systems
Analysis and Development (SA&D) to meet and exchange research ideas and
results. To this end, the focus is on both insights in modelling for SA&D
in general, and the fostering of cross-pollination of insights between
different specific modelling approaches (such as business process
modelling, enterprise modelling, value modelling, capability modeling,
etc.).

EMMSAD provides the participants an opportunity to present their research
papers and experience reports, and to take part in open discussions.

*Topics*:

We solicit papers on topics included (but are not limited to) the following
issues:

· Modelling in general:

- Modelling in an agile context

- Evolution of models

- The process of modelling

- Quality and metrics of models

- Human-model Interaction

- Teaching modelling

· Evaluation and comparison:

- Empirical studies of modelling

- Experiences in modelling

· Modelling methods and tools:

- Specific approaches (business process modelling, enterprise
modelling, value modelling, capability modelling, ontology modelling, …)

- Domain-specific Modelling

· Modelling in novel contexts:

- Regulation & compliance

- Business analytics & big data

- Cloud environments

- The Internet of Things

- Cyber-physical systems

*Important Dates*:

· Abstract submissions (recommended): 25th February, 2018

· Full paper submissions: 1st March, 2018

· Notification of acceptance: 26th March, 2018

· Camera-ready copies: 5th April, 2018

· Conference: 11-12th June 2018

*Submission & Publication*:

The working conference accepts long papers that report Completed Research
or Research-In-Progress and short papers reporting innovative ideas,
experience, or tools.

· Completed research papers should not only discuss research
findings, but also the initial research objectives, the research
methodology used, as well as its appropriateness and its execution.

· Research-in-progress papers report on research that is well under
way with preliminary results available at the time of the conference. These
papers should clearly identify the research objectives of the ongoing
research effort, the research methodology used, and the progress made
so-far.

· Idea papers may present completely new research approaches or
adaptation of existing approaches to new types of emerging challenges. The
papers should precisely describe the shortcomings of current methods, the
innovative aspects of the suggested approach, and its potential to make
change.

· Experience reports are expected to report on work done in a
context of a real-life organization. They should describe the practical
goals of the work, the organizational/business context, the methods or
theories used, and the lessons learnt.

· Tool demonstration papers should be related to the conference
topics. They should include the research background and application
context, the key technologies used, the novelty of the tool, and its
limitations.

Please use the following format for your submissions:

· Long papers (Completed Research and Research-in-Progress) should
not exceed 15 pages (including references and appendices).

· Short papers (idea papers, experience reports, and tool
demonstration) should not exceed 8 pages (including references and
appendices). The presentation of these papers may take an interactive form
(e.g., a poster or a demo session).

Only electronic submissions in PDF format, and in Springer's LNBIP style
(See http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-791344-0), will be
accepted. Both the recommended abstract and the full paper should be
submitted using the conference management system available at:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=emmsad18.

The proceedings with the accepted papers will be published in ***
Springer's LNBIP series ***.

Top papers will be invited to submit an extended and enhanced version for
consideration for publication in *** SoSyM – Software and System Modelling
journal ***. The best paper will be awarded.
