Excelsia College is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Chief Academic Officer (CAO). Key elements of the role include:

Excelsia College:
Excelsia College is a Christian college with academic and administrative staff from many denominations. Excelsia College (formerly Wesley Institute) was founded in 1983 as Australia's first Christian arts college. We currently offer programs in Creative Arts (including Drama and Music), Counselling, Education and Business. See https://excelsia.edu.au/.
 
Excelsia College has attained Self-accrediting Authority and aspires to attain Australian University College status.
 
Responsibilities:
The role of the CAO will report to the Chief Executive to ensure College academic goals are met. Primary responsibilities include:
 
· Providing strategic leadership for teaching and learning, scholarship, research, course portfolio development and associated community engagement, aligned with the mission and vision of the College, and achieving optimal outcomes for students;
· Leading academic staff; the Teaching and Learning Plan, Academic and Professional Development Plan, Course Development Schedule and Scholarship across the Curriculum;
· Course development and review, and course portfolio development;
· Articulate and communicate to internal and external constituents the academic vision of the College.  

The CAO is responsible to ensure the integrity and promote the quality of the institutional academic programs.
 
Selection criteria:
To be successful in this role, applicants must address the selection criteria below and attach their response as a separate document in the application process.
 
(i) Qualifications and Professional Standing:
· Earned Doctorate from an accredited and respected national or international University, preferably in a discipline area consistent with the College's academic disciplinary expertise;
· Five or more years of demonstrated excellent higher education management skills with an ability to administer multiple departments at a university and working in a multi-disciplinary, multi-campus and online/accelerated education environment. Experience in leading a university department, with involvement in new course and faculty development, as well as involvement in institution academic governance is preferred;
· Strong research record as evidenced by the securing of external funding and an excellent publication record, preferably in refereed journals;
· Experience in supervising PhD students is an advantage.
 
(ii) Essential:
· A committed Christian actively involved in a local congregation;
· Demonstrated capability to develop, launch, review and enhance degree programs with strong student numbers and graduate outcomes;
· Demonstrated leadership capability including mentoring and coaching Department Heads to deliver;
· Proven ability to facilitate and manage organisational change;
· Demonstrable experience as strategic thinker with proven ability to both prioritise critical goals and execute strategies in the successful achievement of goals within budget and time frame constraints;
· Demonstrable success as a team player, collaborator and consensus builder who is proactive in conflict resolution. Ability to demonstrate high integrity, vision, innovation, energy and enthusiasm for the mission, vision and values of the College and to be self-motivated in a fast pace changing environment.
 
This full time position is based in Macquarie Park in Sydney, Australia.
