I would like to invite you to attend the conference described below and also to consider submitting an abstract for a talk or poster at this conference. Please also encourage other appropriate persons to do the same.

The Business Information and Analytics Center (BIAC) of Purdue University is organizing a research conference on Data Science for Business and Economics, which will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 25 and 26. The conference will feature interdisciplinary speakers from business, economics, computer science, statistics, and other areas, as they explore the use of data science to solve real-world problems. We encourage talks that push the frontier of our understanding and/or help tame the complexity of data analyses for business decision making via theoretical and empirical studies or foundational discoveries. The program will include several paper sessions, a poster session, and a panel discussion on emerging issues in data science. Each paper session will begin with a talk by a distinguished keynote speaker. The following are the keynote speakers:

* David Bell, chaired professor of Marketing, Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania
* Ramayya Krishnan, chaired professor Management Science and Information Systems and dean, Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University, and president-elect of INFORMS
* Cris Moore, resident professor, Santa Fe Institute, and fellow of American Mathematical Society, American Physical Society, and American Association for the Advancement of Science
* Rakesh Vohra, university professor with appointments in Economics, Electrical and Systems Engineering, and Computer and Information Science, University of Pennsylvania.

A limited number of talks/papers and posters will be accepted for the conference. To propose a talk or poster, the author(s) should submit a one-page abstract by March 15, 2018. The authors of accepted talks and posters will be notified by April 15. The talks will be restricted to 20 minutes, with 5 additional minutes for Q&A. The poster presenter(s) will have 2 minutes to introduce their work to the audience.

Please note that one must register to attend the conference. The registration deadline is May 15, 2018, but the authors of accepted papers/posters must register by May 1 (at least one author of every accepted submission must register for the submission to be included on the program). The conference has a limited capacity, and registration will be made on a first-come-first-serve basis until the capacity is reached.

A flyer/poster for the conference is available here: http://www.krannert.purdue.edu/centers/business-information-and-analytics-center/images/2018_BIAC_Flyer%20v3.pdf. Please feel free to share the flyer with others. Among other things, it includes a link to the conference website, which provides information about keynote speakers and their talks, tentative agenda, accommodation, abstract submission, and registration.

Please write to BIAC at purdue.edu or call 765-496-8000 if you have any questions.

Best,
Prabuddha

where and when
Rennes, France; Dec 10 - 14, 2018

Dates

Abstract Submission May 11
Paper Submission May 18
Author Rebuttal August 2-6
Notification August 24
Final Version Due September 14

Call for Papers

The annual ACM/IFIP/USENIX Middleware conference is a major forum for the discussion of innovations and recent scientific advances of middleware systems with a focus on the design, implementation, deployment, and evaluation of distributed systems, platforms and architectures for computing, storage, and communication. Highlights of the conference will include a high quality single-track technical program, invited speakers, an industrial track, panel discussions involving academic and industry leaders, poster and demonstration presentations, a doctoral symposium, tutorials and workshops.

Topics: Original submissions of research papers on a diversity of topics are sought, particularly those identifying new research directions. The topics of the conference include, but are not limited to:

Platforms and Usage Models:

    * Cloud, fog, edge computing and data centers
    * Data-intensive computing (big data) and data analytics
    * Mobile devices and services
    * Ubiquitous and pervasive computing
    * Networking, network function virtualization, software-defined networking
    * Internet applications and multimedia
    * Internet-of-Things, cyber-physical systems, smart cities
    * Machine learning

Systems and Engineering Issues:

    * Scalability and performance
    * Reliability and fault tolerance
    * Consistency, availability, and replication
    * Blockchain, Security and privacy
    * Virtualization, auto-scaling, provisioning, and scheduling
    * Real-time solutions and quality-of-service
    * Energy- and power-aware techniques

Design Principles and Programming Support:

    * Programming abstractions and paradigms for middleware
    * Methodologies and tools for the design, implementation, verification, and evaluation
    * Event-based, publish/subscribe, and peer-to-peer solutions
    * Reconfigurable, adaptable, and reflective approaches
    * Reviews of middleware paradigms, e.g., object models, aspect orientation, etc.

Original papers of three types are sought:

    * Research Papers: These papers report original research on the above topics, and will be evaluated on significance of the problem, novelty of the solution, advancement beyond prior work, sufficient supporting evidence and clarity of the presentation.
    * Experimentation and Deployment Papers: These papers describe complete systems, platforms, and/or comprehensive experimental evaluations of alternative designs and solutions to well-known problems. The emphasis during the evaluation of these papers will be less on the novelty and more on the demonstrated usefulness and potential impact of the contributions, the extensive experimentation involved, and the quality and weight of the lessons learned.
    * Big Ideas Papers: These are papers that have the potential for opening up new research directions. For such papers, the potential to motivate new research is more important than full experimental evaluation, though some preliminary evidence of the effectiveness of the approach or idea is important.

Submission Guidelines

Submitted papers must have at most 12 pages of technical content, including text, figures, and appendices, but excluding any number of additional pages for bibliographic references. Note that submissions must be double-blind: authors' names must not appear, and authors must make a good faith attempt to anonymize their submissions. Submitted papers must adhere to the formatting instructions of the ACM style, which can found on the submission page, and should clearly indicate the paper type on the first page.

The Middleware 2018 conference proceedings will be published in the ACM Digital Library. The official publication date will be the date the proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library which may be up to two weeks prior to the first day of the Middleware conference. Note that the official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.

Software and Data Artifact Availability for Accepted Papers

The authors of accepted papers will be invited to submit supporting materials to be made publicly available as ?source materials? in the ACM Digital Library. The materials will be vetted by the Artifact Availability Evaluation process run by a separate committee. This submission is voluntary but encouraged and will not influence the final decision regarding the papers. Papers that go through the Artifact Availability Evaluation process successfully and are made available in the ACM Digital Library will receive a badge printed on the papers themselves.

                       Ad Hoc Networks Journal

Special Issue on Advances and Trends on Cognitive Cyber-Physical Systems

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aims and Scope

The emerging technologies on the Internet of Things, wearable devices,
cloud computing and data analytics offer the potential of acquiring and
processing tremendous amount of data from the physical world. More and more
people are engaged dynamically via multiple, heterogeneous ad hoc networks
while most networks are still running in isolation. It becomes significant
to analyze, understand, and utilize modern heterogeneous ad hoc networks,
in order to provide more intelligent systems and cutting-edge applications
to end users, who are typically dynamically interconnected through wireless
networks. Promising computing paradigms and advanced technologies, relating
to context awareness systems, distributed smart sensing, heterogeneous big
data analytics, condition monitoring, and deep learning, etc., have been
increasingly developed and integrated into this cyber-physical world.
Despite the related technologies are advancing at an unprecedented pace,
many challenges remain in bridging the cyber and physical worlds. For
example:
-How to acquire and aggregate distributed data across heterogeneous
networks?
-How to interpret data with diversified relations from physical-social
systems?
-How to establish models, networks, and understandings based on real world
data?
-How to offer intelligent applications and cognitive services to the end
users?
-How to protect privacy among different data sources and networked users?

These critical issues need to be addressed in a holistic and
multidisciplinary way. This issue on advances and Trends on Cognitive
Cyber-Physical Systems?aims at promoting and facilitating exchanges of
research knowledge and findings across different disciplines on the design
and investigation of future generation intelligent cyber physical systems
based on ad hoc network infrastructures. In addition, this issue encourages
and invites researches with great significance and impact on:
1) Addressing the emerging trends and issues on cognitive cyber-physical
systems and services across various application domains.
2) Investigating the challenges posed by the emergent cognitive CPSs on
networking models and services.
3) Providing fundamental theory, model, and methodology in interpreting,
aggregating, processing/analyzing data for intelligent cyber-physical
systems.
4) Exploring new functions and technologies to provide adaptive services
and intelligent applications for different end users.

Subject: [AISWorld] Your request to sign off the BIGDATA list
Message-ID: <LISTSERV%201802071055349876.2A7C at LISTS.DREXEL.EDU>

Wed, 7 Feb 2018 10:55:34

No entry for your aisworld at LISTS.AISNET.ORG address could be found on the
BIGDATA list at LISTS.DREXEL.EDU. Here are a number of possible reasons
why you might still be getting mail from the list:

1. You may not be subscribed to this specific list
(BIGDATA at LISTS.DREXEL.EDU) but rather to an unrelated mailing list with
the same (or similar) name on another host. Please carefully check the
>From and Sender lines of the messages you are getting to ensure that the
mail is actually coming from BIGDATA at LISTS.DREXEL.EDU. If this is not the
case, you will have to contact the owners of the correct list.

2. You could be subscribed under a different, but equivalent address. For
instance, your site might have a cluster of mail machines that go by the
names GOLD.EXAMPLE.COM, SILVER.EXAMPLE.COM and so forth. Depending on how
they are configured, you might have sent your original subscription
request while logged into the GOLD machine and you may be trying to sign
off from the SILVER machine, which LISTSERV would see as two unrelated
hosts. Or your ISP may have silently changed the return address on your
mail from, say, MAIL.ISP.COM to ISP.COM (or vice versa).

In this case, since the subscriber list for BIGDATA is not publicly
searchable, the only thing you can do is to contact the list owner with a
list of possible addresses under which you might be subscribed.

3. You might be subscribed under an equivalent yet different address -
for instance, one with explicit gatewaying, or an X.400 address with
different ordering of the various components, etc.

Again, since the subscriber list for BIGDATA is not publicly searchable,
the only thing you can do is to contact the list owner with a list of
possible addresses under which you might be subscribed.

4. You could be subscribed to the list under another account, from which
mail is being automatically forwarded to your aisworld at LISTS.AISNET.ORG
account. In that case you should be able to leave the list by resending
the signoff request from the account in question.

5. You could be subscribed to the list indirectly, via a "redistribution"
list. That is, one of the subscribers to the LISTSERV list is in fact a
mailing list, to which you are yourself subscribed (note that this
"redistribution" list is not necessarily managed by LISTSERV and, in
fact, such lists are often manually maintained, in which case the only
way to leave the list is to contact the person who maintains it). Since
you are not directly subscribed to BIGDATA, the only way for you to stop
getting the postings is to contact the administrators of the
"redistribution" list and ask them to sign you off.

You should be able to contact the BIGDATA list owners by simply replying
to this message.
