Introduction

Presentation

The newly created Visual Collaboration Lab (VCL) is opening two full-time Doctoral student SNSF positions in Management of Information Systems with a focus on design science research and team collaboration. This lab is part of the Information Systems Institute (DESI) of the Faculty of Business and Economics (HEC Lausanne) , and currently composed of Prof. Stéphanie Missonier and Prof. Yves Pigneur and their PhD students Hazbi Avdiji and Dina Elikan. Its aim is to promote research in the design of collaborative tools based on a design thinking approach.

Your responsibilities

These two PhD positions are part of a research project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). This project focuses on the challenges of collaboration in multi- or transdisciplinary teams whose aim is to innovate and solve wicked problems. Because of their great heterogeneity (in their functions, disciplines, professions, knowledge, or organizations), these teams have numerous difficulties to communicate, coordinate their contributions, and develop a common mission. The objective of this project is to provide theoretical and practical advances by studying this type of team and by designing artifacts that will help them to solve these challenges.
With this in mind, the two selected candidates will have to be able to:

  *   Collaborate and interact with both researchers and professionals from very diverse backgrounds
  *   Design and test arteficts in concrete professional settings

Your qualifications

In order to complete our team, we are looking for two people with the following qualities :

  *   Master’s degree in Information Systems or related field
  *   A passion for research
  *   A strong interest for research in the following topics: Project management, design science research, design thinking, collaborative technologies, communication and coordination theories, team work, “cross-boundary” teams, innovation, visual tools
  *   Practical experience or internship
  *   Good organizational and communication skills
  *   Analytical skills, critical thinking, and ease with multidisciplinarity
  *   At least basic knowledge in mobile software development
  *   Open-minded and good ability to work on projects and with multidisciplinary people
  *   Fluency in English and in French (possibility to just have some basic knowledge of French)
  *   Interest in educational activities and teaching
