Introduction
On January 17, 2018 the European Commission adopted a Digital Education Action Plan, including 11 initiatives to support technology-use and digital competence development in education.
The evolution of information technologies, mobile devices, and social media as well as the needs of students, workers, and academics has experienced rapid changes in the past several years. This complex and dynamic reality requires new forms of delivery of learning content to students, the building of special learning environments, and new teaching methodologies for academics. Old teaching practices (from the building of teaching materials to the evaluation processes and tutorial services) need to be adapted to provide customized and context adapted learning opportunities. There are drivers, barriers, and success factors within distance and mobile learning devices and systems that need to be explored and tested; such as widespread availability and/or the lack of policy support.

The European Commission has funded a number of successful R&D projects focused on mobile learning. Additionally, several EU countries (e.g., Denmark, The Netherlands and UK) have supported the used of mobile learning in schools and universities.
This proposed book aims to foster international exchange of academic insights and approaches and broaden the visibility in the development of technology for education, establish an international platform for interactions on information technology and application in education, accelerate innovation in education technology, and analyze the latest achievements and progress in new and emerging information technology for education, with special focus on higher education institutions.
The book will explore initiatives, policies and cases to support technology-use and digital competence development in education systems around the world. It will discuss experiences and challenges at all levels, from academic staff and administrators, to researchers and designers; from institutions to open, distance and lifelong learning. It also addresses the topic from the micro of specific applications or instances of use in classrooms to macro concerns of national policies and also regional policies, like in the European Union.
The book will universities, education institutions and countries meet challenges and opportunities of the digital era.
The subject area is a combination of highly relevant topics: education institutions (with special focus on universities), information systems and technologies for education and inclusive societies.
Objective
The proposed book aims to be the leading source of information for all those interested in education management and emerging technologies since it promotes scientific discussion on policies, methodologies and approaches, as well as to cover the emerging research topics in digital education which will redefine the goals of education in the coming years.
Furthermore, this book will show the capacity of educational models and policies, information technology and management for the mutual understanding, prosperity, creation of inclusive societies and wellbeing of all the citizens in the world.

Dear Colleagues,

I am contacting you about submitting a chapter proposal to the new book I
am co-editing with Olaf Cames from the University of Liverpool,
entitled  *Applied
Quantum Theory in Information Sciences*. He and I are working on this
exciting project about a new paradigm change for both practitioners and
researchers in the decision sciences.

We are examining how challenges in real-world problems can be better
analyzed and studied using general quantum theory in the fields of
cognition and decision making. For example, IT projects often fail and the
decision support systems do not provide adequate support to avoid failure.
Our project examines the development of a new quantitative method and
system for actual project teams to apply that better defines the parameters
associated with project failure. In this way, we can intercept these
parameters before project failure occurs. This would save time and money,
as well as prevent researcher bias by having an external researcher
following around these project teams.

If you are researching business administration, finances, game theory,
decision sciences, cognitive science, psychology, marketing, genetics and
economy, please see our attached CFP for the book chapter proposal with the
following important dates:

*May 15, 2018*: 1st Proposal Submission Deadline
*May 31, 2018*: 2nd Proposal Submission Deadline
*July 15, 2018:* Notification of Acceptance
*August 31, 2018*: Full Chapter Submission
*October 15, 2018*: Review Results Returned
*November 15, 2018:* Final Acceptance Notification
*December 6, 2018*: Final Chapter Submission

We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing a submission from
you to this exciting and groundbreaking project!

Call for Papers

1st International Workshop on Multi-Method Evaluation of Personalized Systems (MuMe 2018)
https://multimethods.info

held in conjunction with UMAP 2018 (User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization)
http://www.um.org/umap2018/
8 - 11 July, 2018 at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Intro
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The MuMe 2018 workshop is based on the objective to raise awareness in the user modeling community for the significance of using multiple methods in the evaluation of recommender systems and other personalized systems.

Employing a multi-method evaluation integrating a number of single methods (e.g., a combination of think-aloud and survey with open-ended questions or a combination of offline prediction simulation with an open dataset and survey with closed- and open-ended questions) allows for getting a more integrated and richer picture of user experience and quality drivers of personalized systems.

The primary goal of this workshop is to build a community around the multi-method evaluation topic and to develop a long-term research agenda for the topic.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Topics
-------------------------------------------------------------------
We solicit position and research papers (4 pages excluding references, UMAP 2018 Extended Abstracts Format) that address challenges in the multi-method evaluation of recommender systems and other personalized systems. This includes

- "lessons learned" from the successful application of multi-method evaluations,
- "post mortem" analyses describing specific evaluation strategies that failed to uncover decisive elements,
- "overview papers" analyzing patterns of challenges or obstacles to multi-method evaluation, and
- "solution papers" presenting solutions towards identified challenges.

Possible questions addressed may include (but are not limited to):

- How can we select evaluation methods that allow to identify blind spots in user experience? What may be criteria to compare and evaluate the suitability of methods for given evaluation objectives and how can we develop those?
- How can we integrate and combine the results of multiple methods to get a comprehensive picture of user experience?
- What are the challenges and limitations of single- or multi-method evaluation of RecSys? How can we overcome such hurdles?
- What are viable user-centric multi-method study designs (guidelines) for evaluating RecSys? What are the lessons learned from successful or unsuccessful user-centric multi-method study designs?

Call for presentations for the 1st Inter-disciplinary Workshop on Effective, Co-created & Compliant Adaptive Case Management for Knowledge Workers (EcoKnow?18 ) Deadline: May 1st, 2018. I?

Deadline: May 1st, 2018.

In order to obtain more effective and services of higher quality for citizens and customers, workflows in governmental organisations as well as private companies are increasingly being ?digitalised?.

The digitalisation spans from at one hand robotic-process automation or business process management systems automating highly repetitive, stable and predictive sub processes and at the other hand adaptive case and document management systems supporting knowledge workers carrying out much more varied and unpredictable processes.

Such workflows and services are often subjected to changing laws and regulations, such as the European General Data Protection Regulation or national laws, with which compliance should be ensured at all times.

The EcoKnow workshop aims to bridge between researchers and practitioners across disciplines working on the research and development of technologies, methods and practices for end-to-end effective, co-created & compliant adaptive case management for knowledge workers.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  *   Adaptive Case Management
  *   Computer Supported Cooperative Work
  * It-supported co-creation of governmental and private services
  * The process of process modelling
  *   Agile BPM and eGovernment
  *   Hybrid-process modelling
  *   Declarative process modelling
  *   Document management
  *   Process and Data Mining
  * Predictive and Prescriptive Process management
  *   Process Monitoring
  *   Digitalisation of Law
  * Compliance Frameworks for case and business process management
  *   Privacy and Data Protection

The workshop is supported by the Effective, Co-created & Compliant Adaptive Case Management for Knowledge Workers (EcoKnow) project funded by Innovation Fund Denmark from 2017-2021.

We solicit submissions in the form of talk abstracts, case descriptions, discussion and position papers presenting research in progress, research agendas or ideas for novel combinations of existing and/or new technologies and methods.

Better understanding the effective management of software interfacing is vital as companies and individuals harness new digital innovations and integrate them digitally within their processes and practices. Many digital innovations including the Internet of Things, SmartCities, Platforms and Artificial Intelligence, involve a myriad of systems owned and operated by a myriad of different companies which become tightly coupled together through their interfaces (e.g. though APIs and cloud computing). Yet little is known about how the organisations involved in such innovations define such digital interfaces, how they evolve, and in particular what organisational or management commitments are embedded within them or how new forms of organisation or technology emerge through their use.

This research fellow will address such gaps by undertaking research on the organisational, managerial and social implications of digital interfaces as part of a new ?6m+ EPSRC funded project: Interface Reasoning for Interacting Systems (IRIS). The IRIS project is a collaboration between University College London, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, Queen Mary, University of London, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. The project also involves corporate partners including Facebook, Amazon Web Services, BT, HP Labs and Methods Consulting.

The fellow will have research experience in a relevant field such as information systems, science and technology studies, or innovation studies and must hold a completed PhD, or close to obtaining a PhD, in Information Systems or a relevant related field by the post start date. The post will be focused on producing internationally excellent publications and so clear evidence of relevant writing ability and research skills are required. The fellow is expected to actively participate across the project and externally with other researchers and corporate partners.

Candidates should also have:

  * Expertise and research interests in Information Systems and Innovation
  * Proven ability or potential to publish in internationally excellent publications

Subject: [AISWorld] Research survey: How app developers work
Message-ID:
        <CANnW_tt=5eUXvQTg4ghakwwp=TXebiuo4ohMecn1ZNFZ72EzRA at mail.gmail.com>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8"

Dear colleagues,

We are currently working on a project to better understand how people
around the world create apps for mobile platforms. Our goal is to further
understanding and support for app developers (i.e., Android, iOS) in all
stages of software development: from design and coding to publishing and
popularising your software (and everything that falls inbetween).

I would like to invite you to share (and participate in) the survey below
with your colleagues and students who have developed and published apps. We
intend to get a better picture of how app developers from all walks of life
work, in order to develop more personalized support (like guidelines,
tools, and so on). *Participants are eligible to enter a prize-draw to win
one of multiple Fossil smartwatches for him or her!*

The survey can be accessed through this link:
https://lancasteruni.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bBKSYV4Hd3ftIDr

*General remark*: Participation is voluntary and anonymous, and we don?t
collect any personal information. If you participate in the prize draw (see
Reward below), you will be asked to provide an email address which will be
temporarily stored and securely deleted after completion of the prize draw.

*Who are we*: The research is being conducted by Dirk van der Linden
(University of Bristol) and colleagues from Lancaster University and The
Open University. This research is academic in nature, and not done for any
commercial organizations/benefits.

*Target audience*: mobile software/app developers, who have developed and
released at least 1 app in a mobile store (e.g., Google Play, Apple App
Store)

*Goal*: to understand what actions app developers typically take (and why)
in different stages of software development, e.g., code writing, help
seeking, publishing, popularizing

*Questions in the survey:* the survey includes a number of professional
demographic questions (how you develop software, what tools you use, etc.)
to establish a(n anonymous) profile of a developer, and 6 tasks in which
you will be asked to rank, or chose a limited number of actions you can
take for a typical stage in software development.

*Reward*: if you complete the survey, you may participate in a prize draw
to win a Fossil smart watch for him or her. This requires you to give us an
email address to contact after closure of the survey. The email addresses
will be stored temporarily, separate from the survey data, and securely
deleted after the prize draw is held.

Best regards,
Dr. Dirk van der Linden

********************************************************************
CALL FOR PAPERS
International Workshop on Very Large Internet of Things (VLIoT 2018)

In conjunction with VLDB 2018

31st August 2018, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Submission: April 20, 2018 - Submission deadline has been extended!

Web: http://www.ifis.uni-luebeck.de/~groppe/vliot
********************************************************************

** Aims of the Workshop **

An increasing number of real-world objects are becoming accessible and manageable through the Internet. According to CISCO, the number of these devices will reach 50 billion by 2020, forming a very large Internet of Things (VLIoT). This massive number of "smart" objects will cooperate with each other, have their own metadata, and may continuously produce new data (in form of events, sensor data, or actuator states). Data management will be a major challenge in the very large Internet of Things. Hence, efficient IoT infrastructure and technologies must be developed to handle masses of IoT data with high performance. This will include: new techniques to filter and store relevant data; efficient replication approaches for objects with constrained resources in order to increase availability and durability; new protocols for voting about decisions among objects; and smooth integration of heterogeneous objects.

The goal of this workshop is to bring together academic researchers and industry practitioners working in the field of IoT and to allow them to report and exchange their findings addressing these challenges. This workshop also intends to discuss other closely-related technologies such as Nanotechnology, Fog-, Edge-, and Dew-Computing for IoT. The ideas of Fog, Edge and Dew Computing may indeed solve or attenuate the problems of a very large Internet of Things (w.r.t. performance, energy-efficiency, as well as security and privacy aspects).

** Types of Papers **

The workshop welcomes contributions describing original ideas, promising new concepts, and practical experience. In particular, we solicit papers of different types:
  - Research Papers proposing new approaches, theories or techniques related to Internet of Things, including new data structures, algorithms, whole systems, and frameworks. They should make substantial theoretical and empirical contributions to the research field.
  - Experiments and Analysis Papers focusing on the experimental evaluation of existing approaches including data structures and algorithms for Internet of Things and bring new insights through the analysis of these experiments. Results of experiments and analysis papers can be, for example, showing benefits of well-known approaches in new settings and environments, opening new research problems by demonstrating unexpected behavior or phenomena, or comparing a set of traditional approaches in an experimental survey.
  - Application Papers reporting practical experiences on Internet of Things applications. Application papers might describe specific application domains in the IoT such as smart homes/offices/cities, continuous health care, waste management, emergency response, intelligent response, and Industry 4.0.
  - Vision Papers identifying emerging or future research issues and directions, and describing new research visions in the IoT area that may have a great impact on our society.

** Topics of Interest **

We welcome papers on the following and other relevant topics:
  - Semantic IoT
  - Privacy-by-design and security-by-design in IoT
  - System architectures for IoT, e.g.
    - things-centric,
    - data-centric,
    - event-centric, and
    - service-centric.
  - IoT applications including:
    - smart homes/offices/cities,
    - waste management,
    - health care,
