Sciences Po is recruiting an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Sociology with a focus on Digital technologies and organizations.
Analyzing the transformations induced by digital technologies is critical to the understanding of the dynamics of capitalism and state reconfigurations, current evolutions in work as well as in markets, the emergence of new forms of collective action and changes in policymaking. This analysis needs to be empirically grounded in order to produce critical knowledge on the ways these technologies are designed and used, on the data they collect and manage, on the modes of classification and the knowledge forms they incorporate, and on their long-term effects on regulation. This (tenure track) Assistant professorship in Sociology is meant to bring new expertise to CSO, with the aim to strengthen research on the interactions between digital technologies and organizational dynamics, at the crossroads of Economic sociology, the Sociology of instruments and the Sociology of organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research
Candidates must demonstrate experience in empirically grounded research, in private or public organizations, NGOs, markets or social movements. Mixed methods research is welcome. Candidates should engage in contemporary international debates currently under way in the field of sociology, on such topics as capitalism, the state, markets, collective action or regulation. They will be expected to participate in the collective activities of the CSO.
Teaching
Candidates must have taught sociology already. The annual teaching load equals 128 hours, composed of three 24-hour courses and 56 hours of academic obligations, at college and masters levels (including the PhD program). During the first 3 years of the tenure track, this load is reduced to 88h/year, including 2 lecture courses and 40 hours of academic obligations. The future assistant professor will be expected to teach courses in general sociology to undergraduate students in one of Sciences Po’s regional campuses, along with courses in specialized fields of sociology and methods for graduate students (Master and PhD level) in Paris. Ability to teach in areas that lie beyond one’s research specialization is a plus. A firm commitment to teach in the School of Management and Innovation at Sciences Po is expected.
