MANAGEMENT SCIENCE AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT
OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY


The Management Science and Information Systems (MSIS) Department in the Spears School of
Business at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a Professor of Practice position (at all ranks, including Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, etc.) slated to begin in Fall, 2019. The position is on the Stillwater campus. Departmental faculty, such as this position, are located in both Stillwater and Tulsa and typically teach classes in both locations (as well as on-line as appropriate). The position requires teaching seven sections per year; however, if the candidate agrees to a significant service or administrative role, the teaching load will be reduced to six classes per year.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:


OSU's MSIS Department has a unique blend of faculty, students and staff, delivering innovative academic programs at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral level, producing impactful and high quality research, and providing outstanding service to the profession, the university, the college and to the community.


The Department has a long tradition of research and instructional programs in the data sciences.
Faculty have published some of the top-cited research papers in decision support systems and business intelligence/data analytics history and continue this publishing excellence today. The Department also partners with OSU's Center for Health Sciences and the Center of Health Systems Innovation in delivering graduate programs and certificates, and conducting applied research, in health informatics and health care analytics.

The Department is also a national leader in Information Assurance (IA), having long been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in IA Education (CAE/IAE) and Research (CAE-R) by the NSA and the Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, the MSIS Department is known for its innovative programs related to high school student outreach including the ISyTE (Information Systems Technology Exploration) Summer Academy.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The successful applicant will be a creative and effective teacher capable of contributing to the department's undergraduate and graduate programs. The MSIS Department has an undergraduate MIS degree with options in Data Science and in Cybersecurity, as well as M.S. degrees in these same areas.  Preference will be given to candidates who can teach technical classes.  Technical can be defined as hands-on data science and cybersecurity classes, as well as more traditional classes in object-oriented/multi-paradigm programming, web-based systems development, and mobile development.

Applicants should hold (at least) a relevant M.S. degree and have at least 5 years of significant and current practice experience be able to demonstrate teaching excellence (or the potential for teaching excellence) and a commitment to being able to offer a wide range of courses.  All candidates for the position must start with and maintain qualifications for AACSB accreditation - this can be either SA, SP or IP qualifications.  Finally, the applicant should have an innovative mindset and be willing to support and participate in departmental initiatives as needed.
The appointment is for three years and can be renewed.  This position is contingent on funding. Applicant screening will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Interviews will begin at the major academic conferences (AMCIS, INFORMS, ICIS, etc.), with follow up campus interviews also taking place during the Fall 2018 semester. All positions are contingent upon available funding.
