Professor of Information Systems: Tenure and Non-Tenure Track

Boston College is recruiting for two tenure track and/or non-tenure track positions at the Assistant level in Information Systems beginning September 2019. In exceptional cases, a higher-level appointment may be considered or additional positions may be made available.  In the case of the non-tenure-track position, a January 2019 start date is possible.

The University: Boston College is a coeducational university with an average student population of 9,400 undergraduate and 4,600 graduate students, representing every state and more than 95 countries. Founded in 1863, it is one of the oldest, Jesuit, Catholic universities in the United States. US News & World Report ranks Boston College 31st among national universities. The University's Carroll School of Management offers nationally ranked undergraduate, full-time MBA and part-time MBA programs.  The school also offers highly regarded degree programs in Finance (MSF and Ph.D.), Accounting (MSA and Ph.D.) and Organizational Studies (Ph.D.). Boston College's 150-acre main campus is located in an open suburban setting six miles from downtown Boston. The University's $2.2 billion endowment ranks as one of the nation's 40 largest.

Tenure-Track Position: We are seeking candidates that have a robust research agenda and a dedication to teaching excellence. Boston College offers faculty members a standard 2-2 teaching load, which is reduced by one course for research active faculty.  Preparations are limited and matched to the candidate’s strengths and interests. Faculty are sought to contribute to a successful and expanding Information Systems department. Ideal candidates would be able to teach one or more of the following: Introduction to IS, Database Systems, Programming, Systems Analysis and Design, or Business Analytics. We seek individuals who can complement and strengthen the research focus of our group, while adding to the atmosphere of collegiality and openness to collaboration. We offer a stimulating environment, an exceptional student body, an active and responsive alumni base, and close ties to the Boston business and academic communities. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Information Systems or related discipline, a demonstrated ability to conduct “A” journal quality research, and evidence of teaching excellence (or the ability to develop such excellence).

Non-Tenure-Track Position:  A well-qualified applicant will thoroughly enjoy teaching and possess extensive evidence of teaching excellence at an accredited business school.  The position calls for a 3-3 teaching load.  Candidates with a Ph.D. in Information Systems or related field, or significant industry experience are encouraged to apply, with both preferred. Candidates should be willing and able to teach both managerial classes (e.g., Introduction to IS, Ecommerce) and technical classes (e.g., Programming for Managers, Systems Analysis and Design, Business Analytics) to both undergraduates and MBAs.  We are also looking for candidates who will be enthusiastic about working with students outside the classroom setting (e.g., advising students and clubs).
