1.       Introduction



Internet of Things (IoT) in the industrial sector, known as Industrial IoT (IIoT) is now a reality in the context of industrial transformation. It is becoming increasingly more pervasive in the industry as digitisation is becoming a business reality for many organisations in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, oil and gas, energy and other utilities, mining, aviation, and many more. Market opportunities for this paradigm are huge. According to one research, the IIoT market is estimated to reach $125 Billion by 2021. The driving philosophy behind IIoT is that smart machines are better than humans at accurately capturing, analysis, and communication of real-time data. The underlying technologies include distributed computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence and machine-to-machine communication. A typical IIoT system consists of intelligent systems (applications, controllers, sensors and security mechanisms), data communication infrastructure (cloud computing, edge computing, etc), data analytics (to support business intelligence and corporate decision making), and most importantly the human element. The benefits that IIoT promises include enhanced safety, better reliability, smart metering, inventory management, equipment tracking, facilities management, etc. There are however numerous issues as well that are becoming the focus of active research. These refer to concerns with respect to service availability, data security, and device communication. Lack of ubiquitous interoperability between heterogeneous devices is also a major concern.

2.       Suggested Topics



Focus of the book is on the development of the IIoT paradigm, discussing frameworks, methodologies, benefits, limitations, as well as case studies of using IIoT in the industrial sector. The relevant topics include:

·       Business cases for IIoT deployment

·       Applications in IIoT and data science

·       Communication protocols and device connectivity for IIoT

·       Information security and management for IIoT

·       Smart manufacturing/logistics/farming/grids

·       Sensors and actuators networks for IIoT

·       Data security/privacy and control/optimisation for IIoT

·       Cyber security for smart industrial systems

·       IIoT applications and use cases for Industry 4.0

·       IIoT solutions using Bluetooth mesh networking

·       IIoT architectures and frameworks

·       Industrial internet connectivity framework (IICF)

·       IIoT reference model eg IoTWF

·       IIoT in smart manufacturing and smart logistics



It is expected that the book will comprise a number of sections. A tentative idea is as follows:



  *   Section 1 – concepts and principles: covering topics such as principles, architectures, underlying technologies, and historical perspective
  *   Section 2 – frameworks and methodologies: covering topics such as communication, networking, connectivity, standards and management
  *   Section 3 – security and trust: covering topics such as ethics, social implications, data confidentiality and organisational perspectives
  *   Section 4 – case studies and future advances: covering topics such as future trends, further developments, and new research directions.



3.       Aim and Objectives



The aim of the proposed book is to report and discuss the related topics to benefit other researchers/practitioners as well as to advance the existing body of knowledge in the proposed subject area of IIoT, also known as Industry 4.0. The objectives are:

·       To capture the latest research/practice with respect to opportunities, challenges, methodologies and approaches to development and deployment of AmI in the IoT paradigm

·       To present case Studies, discuss corporate analysis, provide a balanced view of benefits and inherent issues, and to identify further research directions and technologies in this area



4.       Submission Procedure



Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit 1-2-page chapter proposals clearly stating the objective, scope and structure of the proposed chapters - by the deadline mentioned above. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified within two weeks (in most cases) and given guidelines for full chapter preparation. Completed chapters should be approximately 10,000 words or 20 pages in length – longer chapters will also be acceptable. Full chapters will be reviewed following a double-blind peer review process to ensure relevance, quality, originality and high information content. Proposals (and full chapters, after the acceptance of the proposal), in the form of WORD files, should be sent to: dr.z.mahmood at hotmail.co.uk



5.       Important dates



·       Chapter proposals due date:             10 November 2018

·       Notification of acceptance:                 within 2 weeks of receipt of proposals

·       Full chapters due date:                         within 6 weeks of acceptance notification

·       Chapter reviews feedback:                  within 6 weeks of chapter due date

·       Revised chapters due date:                  within 3 weeks of review feedback
