Dear Colleagues,

You may be aware that an industrial action has been underway for nearly
two months at the ICIS 2018 conference hotel, The San Francisco Marriott
Hotel.  As conference chairs we have been watching the situation carefully.

The Marriott has consistently assured us that the hotel services are,
and will continue, operating normally.  We will operate ICIS 2018 as
planned.

According to the Huffington Post, the strike is winding down, “The
weekslong strike that hit Marriott hotels in seven cities is starting to
show signs of resolution … [bringing] the total number of workers left
on strike to 2,500, all of them at properties in San Francisco, down
from a peak of 7,700, according to the union, Unite Here.”  Their report
goes on to note, “The union said negotiations will resume in San
Francisco this weekend, with the main outstanding issues being pay
raises and health care coverage.”  (HuffPost Business 11/28/2018)

The striking union has been proactively contacting some of us involved
in organizing the conference.  For reasons of privacy protection, we
have moved the AIS Council Contact Page and the AIS Staff Contact page
behind the AIS Member wall.  The ICIS2018 Conference Committee page has
also been temporarily deactivated. AIS has not and will not publicly
post the ICIS 2018 Registration List.

If the industrial action continues after this weekend, we will provide
further information on the ICIS web site.
