The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) demands
significant data protection safeguards and poses both new challenges and
potential opportunities to organizations around the world. Most
organizations are not yet adequately prepared for compliance with the GDPR.
To minimize liability under the GDPR, organizations around the world need
to make changes to be in compliance with the GDPR. This editorial preface
discusses GDPR’s impact on global technology development including both
challenges and opportunities. Furthermore, we discuss how China and the
U.S., the two leading global economic power, can better respond to the
challenges and opportunities brought up by GDPR.

Information Technology (IT) use has the potential to enhance firms’
capacity to build and sustain competitive advantages. Though a rich
literature notes how IT use continues to change the nature, scale, and
scope of service delivery, surprisingly few studies have addressed the
digital transformation processes through which the introduction of new
IT-enabled online services are introduced in firms and industries. To
address this issue, we identify and examine the processes through which IT
may create or impair business value in service processes. To theorize these
processes, we adopt a service-dominant logic perspective that views the
customer as a co-creator of firm value and analyze some observed risks,
tensions, and socio-technical challenges associated with the introduction
of an online banking service system in India. Drawing on the findings, we
present implications for IT strategy research and discuss in particular how
firms can avoid unexpected value destruction when they increase customer
participation in the delivery of online services to create value.

The Influence of Themes of Interplay on Multistakeholders Engagement Amidst

Stakeholder Engagement is considered a salient and ongoing challenge in
globally distributed Information Communication Technology (ICT) Projects.
This paper explores multifaceted aspects of stakeholder engagement from an
ICT Vendor perspective using the empirical case study method. Qualitative
data was gathered from two case studies from different ICT vendor
organizations. The case studies involved 14 interviews with
multistakeholders engaged in globally distributed projects. Qualitative
data were analyzed using Nvivo® software and Associative Rules. The
findings revealed the key ‘themes of interplay’ that influence stakeholder
engagement during adverse situations and ‘antidotes’ to mitigate adverse
situations. These findings inform a research model that can explain the
phenomenon and contribute to project management practice within the ICT
Vendor Community.

This study examines the effect of internet usage on economic well-being for
45 SSA countries for the period 1995–2015 using panel fully modified least
square (FMOLS) and panel dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS), and within a
panel causality analysis. The panel FMOLS and panel DOLS analyses show that
internet usage has a significant and positive effect on economic
well-being. The panel causality analysis shows that there is bi-directional
causality between internet usage and economic well-being in the short and
long run, meaning that internet usage plays significant roles in increasing
economic well-being, and economic well-being also plays significant roles
in the expansion of internet usage both in the short and long run.
Interestingly, the study shows that internet scams have a significant and
negative effect on economic well-being, meaning that growing internet scams
lead to lower economic well-being in SSA.
