*Introduction*
In recent years the continent of Africa has experienced much change as it
relates to technology which can be seen from the startups emerging from
Nairobi, Kenya to the software development houses in Lagos, Nigeria. In the
Middle East countries such as the United Arab Emirates has appointed its
first Minister of Artificial Intelligence while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
has recovered from the biggest hack in history that targeted Saudi Aramco.
As these regions continue to elevate its status in technology, it is
imperative that the security issues are addressed.

*Objective*
The objective of this special issue is to focus on cybersecurity, national
security, and related issues that affect Africa and the Middle East regions.

*Recommended Topics*
Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited
to) the following:

• Cybersecurity
• National Security
• Emergency Preparedness Technology
• Homeland Security
• Computing Education
• Artificial Intelligence
• Data Science
• Ethics

*Submission Procedure*
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this special
theme issue on Exploring Cybersecurity and National Security Issues on or
before July 4, 2019. All submissions must be original and may not be under
review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE
JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at

All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review basis.
