On behalf of the ER Steering Committee (and especially the ER Fellow Committee), we are pleased to announce the 2019 ER Fellows: Professor Nicola Guerino (Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies of the Italian National Research Council) and Professor Juan Carlos Trujillo (University of Alicante, Spain).

The awarding ceremony will take place at ER2019 in Salvador, Brazil, on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

Criteria for the Award:

Research: how well the nominee has helped advance the field of conceptual modeling with his/her intellectual contributions.
Service: participation in the organization of conceptual-modeling-related meetings and conferences and participation in editorial boards of conceptual-modeling-related journals.
Education: how effectively the nominee has mentored doctoral students in conceptual modeling, produced researchers from their labs, and helped mentor other young people in the field.
Contribution to practice: the extent to which the nominee has contributed to technology transfer, commercialization, and industrial projects.
International reputation: the extent to which the nominee's work is visible to and has diffused into the international community.

PROF. NICOLA GUERINO
The curricula of Prof. Nicola Guerino reflects his outstanding contributions to the field, his contributions towards building an interdisciplinary conceptual modeling community, as well as his fundamental influence to the younger generation of active members of our community.
Guarino is undoubtedly a leading authority world-wide in the area of ontologies and conceptual modeling. He has published widely on this topic and his publications have had universally recognized impact. According to Google Scholar, he has 23,050 citations and an h-index of 48, as of May 27, 2019. He has published a total of 8 papers in ER forums, being also a tutorial presenter at ER 2015 and ER 2002 and serving as a PC member in several editions of the conference. He has participated in several editions of this conference playing different roles. He has been very active promoting for more than two decades the fields of formal and applied ontology, and ontology-driven conceptual modeling. For example, he co-founded the journal "Applied Ontology - An Interdisciplinary Journal of Ontological Analysis and Conceptual Modeling". Over the years, he has presented tutorials in the topics of Foundations of Conceptual Modeling, and Ontology-Driven Conceptual in conferences such as ER (2002 and 2015), CAISE (2019), JOWO (Joint Ontology Workshops), and the IAOA Summer School on Ontological Analysis (2012, in Trento; 2014, in Vitoria, Brazil).  His mentoring style for PhD students is exemplary. He has taught many PhD courses in Trento, and has presented several invited lectures at many different universities and graduate schools worldwide.

PROF. JUAN CARLOS TRUJILLO
Prof. Trujillo has made great contribution to the field of Conceptual Modeling since 1998, especially in the sub-areas of data warehouse (DW) design and business intelligence (BI) modeling. He has developed numerous innovative modeling techniques for data warehouse design and BI applications,that are clearly reflected in his research profile. He is a productive researcher, dedicated educator and a friendly collaborator in our conceptual modeling community.
Prof. Trujillo has been identified to be one of the most active researchers in the field of Conceptual Modeling. He has published a total of 19 papers in ER forums. Among the 19, 15 papers were published in the ER main conferences and another 4 papers in ER workshops. He founded two ER workshops and co-organized the ER workshops for 14 times. Furthermore, he served as a Program co-chair of ER conferences twice (ER'18 and ER'13) and in numerous organizing committee chairs of ER conferences. In addition to this, he also served as PC-Chairs in multiple international forums, related to his main research areas on conceptual modeling and business intelligence. As an active Full Professor in his university, he leads not only the research in conceptual modeling and business intelligence, but also the teaching activities in those areas, with up to 12 PhD supervisions. Regarding internationalization, Prof. Trujillo is a very active international collaborator, and a member of several international associations. He has been Principal Investigator (PI) of several research and technology transfer contracts between his university and companies, providing technology, consultancy services and taught courses on different aspects of Business Intelligence Applications. He is the main co-founder and actual President of the Spin-off Company Lucentia Lab, a Spin-off of the University of Alicante funded in 2015. This company was created with the technology transfer of two Software products that Prof. Trujillo is a co-author.
