Dear IS Community,
The 29th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2021) will take place from June 16 – June 18, 2021 in Timișoara, Romania (https://ecis2021.eu/). The conference theme of ECIS2021 is “New Horizons in Digitally United Societies”.
We now call for track proposals.
1) Topics for Track Proposals
We welcome both established and emerging topics that draw significant attention within IS research. A conference theme has already been set up. We aim at having 20-21 tracks. The topics for which we look for track proposals are below. Further topics are welcome.

2) Track Chair Responsibilities
We cordially invite fellow researchers to propose tracks on their particular field of interest. Each track is to be organised by a minimum of two and a maximum of three chairs. The track chairs should be based in different countries. The chairs team for each track should possess a sufficient level of academic seniority, in terms of being recognized in the field (of the track), e.g. through publications, as well as having editorial experience. Furthermore, we seek a gender-balanced composition of the track chair team.
The responsibilities as a track chair will be to:
1. Liaise with the program chairs on all matters that concern ECIS 2021;
2. Promote the track and take sufficient measures to ensure an adequate number of submissions;
3. Organise a peer review cycle for the papers submitted to your track, assisted by a set of associate editors (AEs). Track chairs will nominate associate editors for the reviewing process, and they will assure that each paper will receive three high-quality reviews;
4. Propose to the program committee the papers that will eventually be accepted for inclusion into the conference program; nominate papers for awards;
5. Create an attractive track program;
6. At least one of the track co-chairs should attend ECIS 2021 and serve as a point of contact for the session chairs in the respective track. Please note that track chairs cannot submit to their own track. They can submit to the General Track of the conference.
3) Structure of Track proposals
We provide a template for the structure of the track proposal – please use the template that can be found at the conference website.
1. A title for the track (less than 15 words) – as per the list above or if not there, the new title with a justification and explanation of why the track would attract an audience.
2. Names, e-mail and mailing addresses, affiliations, phone numbers, URLs of the website of each of the track co-chairs. Please designate one of the co-chairs as the primary contact person.
3. A short description of the track and its focus (maximum length: 200 words and about 10 potential suggested topics): define the proposed area of research; discuss the topics the track will address, and how these align with the ECIS 2021 conference theme.
4. A tentative list of associate editors for the proposed track (Excel sheet provided). Please provide names and affiliations. As a potential track chair, you cannot serve as planned associate editor for ECIS2021.
5. Short bios (less than 100 words) of each co-track chair including your track record (if any) in organising tracks, or in other academic services in the IS community.
Track chairs are encouraged to make fast track or special issue arrangements with leading journals that fit the topic of the track.
4) Evaluation
Each proposal will be evaluated by the ECIS 2021 program chairs in cooperation with the conference chairs. Decisions will be based on (a) the overall merit of the proposal, (b) the significance of the subject, (c) the profile and diversity of the track team (including seniority, location, and gender); and the (d) fit with the conference theme.
Tracks will be selected with the objective of balancing traditional IS topics with emerging topics while supporting the diversity of chairs. If needed, proposals might be merged for the best possible coverage of topics and the best mix of track chairs.
Please note that to ensure diversity of track topis, the ECIS 2021 program chairs might approach you with suggestions to modify the proposal. In case there are proposals for similar topics, the committee might ask you to consider joining forces (but the maximum of three chairs remains). The committee reserves the right to invite scholars to become track chairs on topics that have not been proposed through the open call.
Track proposals should be e-mailed to ecis2021 at e-uvt.ro<mailto:ecis2021 at e-uvt.ro> as soon as possible but no later than March 1, 2020. Notifications of acceptance or rejection of proposed tracks will be sent out by June 2, 2020.
Thank you very much for considering submitting a track proposal for ECIS 2021. We are looking forward to receiving your proposal.
Sincerely,
Program Chairs ECIS 2021
