Call for Book Chapter Proposals for Information Technology Applications for Crisis Response and Management.

Book Editor – Dr. Jon W. Beard (jwbeard at iastate.edu<mailto:jwbeard at iastate.edu>)

In a time with many types of crises, from natural disasters (earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, hurricanes/typhoons, etc.) to man-made (industrial accidents, pandemics, war/conflict, product safety failures and recalls, cyber security, etc.), there are a multitude of situations where information technology and information systems can assist in crisis response and management.

This edited volume, entitled Information Technology Applications for Crisis Response and Management, provides a multi-disciplinary perspective on current and cutting-edge research exploring and extending our understanding of the use of information systems and information technology to support responses to crises of all kinds—accidental, intentional, and acts of nature. It includes issues that are technical, cognitive, organizational, and human-focused. Submissions are encouraged that focus on the design, development, implementation, use, and evaluation of IS technologies and methodologies to support crisis response and management, as well as technology management-related issues for crisis response and management. These can be revealed though quantitative, qualitative, or case-based methods.

  * Command and control for crisis management
  * Crisis planning, exercises, gaming, and training
  * Application of emerging technologies, e.g., blockchain, internet of things (IoT), smart cities, etc.

  *   Decision making and judgment
  * Research methods, and modeling approaches
  * Rescue, recovery, and humanitarian operations
  * Information systems strategy and operations, infrastructures, and interoperability
  * Disaster risk reduction, risk management, ad-hoc, and sensor networks
  * Early warning and emergency response systems, including reactions to those systems
  *   Unanticipated challenges and responses
  *   Positive vs. negative outcomes
