Dr. Shim has been very active in supporting research, service, and teaching
with his grant efforts. He often said that he found it rewarding to donate
scholarships to students and support their success at each school he has
worked for. Dr. Shim was also a passionate teacher. Even during his short
and courageous battle with cancer, most students taking his courses in the
Fall 2021 semester (he was teaching until September this year) and his
colleagues have not noticed that he was fighting with the illness.

Throughout his lifetime, Dr. Shim enjoyed the pursuits of teaching and
research as well as mentoring many students, professionals, and peer
colleagues and spending time with his loving family. He will be remembered
in the hearts of many who have been helped by his knowledge, kindness, and
selflessness. On behalf of the KrAIS Chapter, we offer our sincere
condolences.
