It is sad to hear this horrible news. I knew him personally and had several
discussions on different occasions about our profession and our lives. I
will miss having these discussions and he will be missed in our professional
and personal lives.

We pray for the peace and well-being of his entire family.

In Memoriam – Dr. J.P. Shim

With great sorrow, the Korean Chapter of the Association for Information
Systems (KrAIS) shares the news that Dr. J.P. Shim passed away Monday,
November 22, 2021, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was
one of the program co-chairs for the KrAIS inaugural post-ICIS research
workshop in 2007. He is survived by his loving family - Michelle Shim
(Wife), Rana Kim (Daughter), Jason Kim (Son-in-law), Julie Shim (Daughter),
Dana Sim (Daughter), John Sim (Son-in-law), John Shim (Son), and four
grandsons (Caleb, Caden, Austin, Adam). He was 74.

Dr. Shim was CIS faculty, and executive director of the Korean-American
Business Center at Georgia State University and a former BIS Professor,
Larry and Tonya Favreau Notable Scholar, John Grisham Professor, and
International Business Strategy Program Director at Mississippi State
University (MSU). He has published five books and 100+ journal papers in
*Journal of AIS*, *Journal of Information Technology, European Journal of
Information Systems, Communications of the ACM, Decision Support Systems,
Interfaces, ISR, Information & Management, Journal of Strategic Information
Systems, Human Relations, Omega, IEEE Xplore, IEEE IT Professional,
Computers & Operations Research, Journal of Operational Research Society,
Journal of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis, Long Range Planning, Journal of
Organizational Computing* *and Electronic Commerce, ICIS Proceedings*, and
*Academy of Management Proceedings*, *Computing and Electronic Commerce* ,
*ICIS Proceedings*, and *Academy of Management Proceedings*. He was WTS
Fellow, IEEE Senior Member, and AIS Distinguished Member Cum Laude.

He was a frequent invited lecturer/speaker (more than 350 times) at numerous
universities, research institutes, governments, and companies in the U.S.,
France, England, Korea, Germany, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Kuwait,
Jamaica, Portugal, Turkey, and Singapore. Over the past several decades he
delivered invited speeches at Tulane University, University of Wisconsin
System in Madison, Panasonic Multimedia Lab in Princeton, New York
University, ESSEC, KAIST, Seoul National University, Pohang University of
Science and Technology, National University of Singapore, Yokohama National
University, Fudan University, Chinese U of Hong Kong, City University of
Hong Kong, The University of the West Indies, and others.

Dr. Shim has been very active in supporting research, service, and teaching
with his grant efforts. He often said that he found it rewarding to donate
scholarships to students and support their success at each school he has
worked for. Dr. Shim was also a passionate teacher. Even during his short
and courageous battle with cancer, most students taking his courses in the
Fall 2021 semester (he was teaching until September this year) and his
colleagues have not noticed that he was fighting with the illness.

Throughout his lifetime, Dr. Shim enjoyed the pursuits of teaching and
research as well as mentoring many students, professionals, and peer
colleagues and spending time with his loving family. He will be remembered
in the hearts of many who have been helped by his knowledge, kindness, and
selflessness. On behalf of the KrAIS Chapter, we offer our sincere
condolences.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00~Noon (Eastern time) on December 1,
at Lee's Funeral Homes & Crematory, 4067 Industrial Park Dr. NW, Norcross,
GA 30071, USA.
