Scope:

By adopting a holistic, multi-disciplinary stance to an enterprise the Enterprise Architecture (EA) field significantly contributes to an enterprises’ need to adapt increasingly fast to changing customer requirements and business goals. In particular, EA covers the entire “Business-to-IT stack” of an enterprise by explicitly incorporating business-related artifacts in addition to conventional IS/IT artifacts. This is in contrast to conventional architecture management approaches such as IT architecture, software architecture, or IS architecture, which often focus on one (IT centric) aspect only.

Organizations increasingly have to cope with the continuous need for change and improvement, triggered, amongst others, by the digital transformation.
Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) is important to safeguard the success of digital transformation initiatives, whereby for a given transformation all the elements (e.g., business processes and IT infrastructure) are aligned to the strategic goals and decisions.

This theme section focusses on theoretical and practical aspects of EA and EAM.
Primarily we are interested in submissions that contribute new theories, methods, concepts, and tools able to cope with challenges in the area of EAM, as well as empirical papers that contribute to deepening our understanding of EAM aspects.

The Journal of Software and Systems Modeling (SoSyM) invites original, high-quality submissions for its theme section on “Trends in Enterprise Architecture Management Research” focusing on topics, including:
- Digital transformation: Consequences for EA (or the role of EA in) digital transformation, including e.g., migration to data stream architectures, digital platform ecosystems, Big Data, IoT, etc.
- Enterprise architecture modeling and analysis: Including modeling languages, model-based analysis and analytics, reference models, viewpoints, human-model interaction, EA and AI etc.
- Enterprise cyber risk management: Managing cyber risks, which include e.g., cyber security risks, but also other risks, such as the negative consequences of AI-based errors, systemic ripple effects, etc.
- Enterprise architecture decision-making and decision-execution: Including drivers for change, architecture governance, stakeholder management, etc.
- Cases and tool implementations
