DESCRIPTION

The challenges and problems of social media have drawn increasing scholarly attention in recent years, such interest is further fueled by the continued growth in usage and the perpetual change in features. There are pressing questions that remain unanswered and call for further investigation. This mini-track invites papers that identify and address the dark side of social media, the aspects of social media that negatively impact people’s personal lives, disrupt the operation of organizations, and mangle the social fabric. The goal is to raise awareness of the negative aspects of social media use and identify innovative approaches to maintaining a safe and productive environment and creating social well-being for the greater good.
Empirical, theoretical, or position papers are welcome in this track. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:

- Social media addiction and isolation
- Social media and personal relationship
- Social media, face-to-face interaction, and personal fulfillment
- Impact of social media on physical and mental health
- Social media and productivity/job performance
- Social media on business communication
- Effect of social media on education
- Impact of social media on democracy
- Impact of social media on public opinion polarization
- Ethical, legal issues and freedom of speech in social media
- Social media and politics
- Impact of social media on law enforcement
- Social media and society
- Social media and privacy concerns
- Social media and security
- Online identity, scam, hoax, and phishing
- Fake news and disinformation
- Cyberbullying

SUBMISSION TYPES

    • Full papers must not exceed 10 pages.
    • Emergent Research Forum (ERF) papers must not exceed 5 pages.

All submissions must conform to the AMCIS 2023 submission template and will be peer-reviewed using a double-blind system.
