The Bright Internet Global Symposium (BIGS) 2023 will take place as a
virtual workshop on December 8, 2023 in the India Standard time zone of
Hyderabad, India. The workshop consists of two tracks: Academic and
Practice. Sessions in Academic Track are directed toward academia and will
feature presentation of original research, whereas sessions in Practice
Track will consist of practical panels and discussions by industry experts
and policymakers. Both AIS and non-AIS members are welcome to all sessions.

This call for papers is for the Academic Track of BIGS 2023. The theme of
BIGS 2023 is *AI for Bright Internet and Bright AI*. We invite original
research articles related to AI and Bright Internet, addressing technical,
managerial, economic, and policy solutions and implications towards the
Internet that is more sustainable, secure, and trustworthy. Papers that
focus on Bright AI with an emphasis on the Internet and/or cyber
environments are particularly encouraged. Applications of emerging
technologies such as blockchain, machine learning, and cloud computing for
preventive cybersecurity measures and sustainable cyber environments are
also preferred. Papers may employ any applicable IS research methods (case
study, survey, analytical modeling, experiments, computational models,
econometrics, design science, and so forth). Mixed research methods are
appreciated. Please refer to the important dates below. Additional

*Journal Publication Opportunity*

Authors of the accepted papers are encouraged to submit complete versions
of their research for fast-track review in the Special Issue on "AI and
Bright Internet" in Information Systems Frontiers
<https://www.springer.com/journal/10796>. The call for papers of this
special issue will be available at a later time.

*Important Dates*

   - Submission Deadline: October 15, 2023
   - Notification of Acceptance: November 10, 2023
   - Workshop Date: December 8, 2023 (India Standard Time)

*Submission Guidelines*

All submitted papers undergo a double-blind peer-review process. Please
submit your work using our submission system at
https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/BIGS2023. All submissions should be
blinded and follow the workshop template in Microsoft Word that can be
found on the submission website, with no author names or other
identification in the manuscript file, including removal of document
properties and tracked changes. Completed research papers should not exceed
15 pages. Research-in-progress papers should not exceed 8 pages. Extended
abstracts (2-3 pages) are also welcome. Completed research papers may be
invited for fast-track review in *Information Systems Frontiers*
(tentative). Accepted papers will be presented virtually via Zoom on
December 8th 2023 (Indian Standard Time) during the Academic Track of BIGS
2023. Detailed guidelines will be provided later.
