Please consider submitting to our Pre-ICIS Research Workshop taking place on December 9th, 2023. The complete CFP is below.

8th ICIS SIG Social Inclusion (SIGSI) Research Workshop 2023

Submission deadline Sunday, October 1st, 2023, by midnight ET, with notification of acceptance or rejection by Sunday, October 15, 2023, by midnight ET.

SOCIAL INCLUSION: Using technology for a sustainable development and humanitarian world.

SIG Social Inclusion invites all submission types (abstract, short paper, full paper) related to the workshop theme of sustainable development and humanitarian outcomes. While the pandemic showcased how our processes were disrupted, other marginalized societies (e.g., immigrants, refugees, low-income, digital illiterate) were severely affected. We welcome all relevant theoretical, empirical, debate, case studies, and intervention submissions associated with our mission and the Grand Challenges facing human development. In addition, we want to highlight the impact of emergent technologies (e.g., AI and metaverse) and the possible DEI and ethical issues that come with it. Also, we are interested in the gender gap in the IS field, gender minorities, inclusion of the differently-abled, inclusion of neurodiversity in IT, intersectionality of identities (such as ethnicity, gender, and socio-economic class), socioeconomic divisions that impact access to or use of technology, digital inclusion, under-served groups, and a range of topics related to human diversity, and the “haves” and “have nots” in interconnected digital environments.

We invite submissions of research ideas, extended abstracts, research-in-progress, and full papers related to the workshop theme of social inclusion concerns regarding using technology for a sustainable development and humanitarian world. In addition, we welcome relevant theoretical, empirical, case studies, and intervention submissions related to the mission of the AIS Special Interest Group on Social Inclusion (SIGSI). SIGSI promotes research, pedagogy, and outreach on all aspects of social inclusion in Information Systems (IS). Such efforts aim to stimulate greater diversity of thoughts and people in AIS and the IS field and participation of all our members in a more socially aware and inclusive discipline.

Submitted research can be conceptual, analytical, design-oriented, case study, or empirical. The workshop will include discussions of submitted work.
