CALL FOR PAPERS
4th ISJ Trending Topics Workshop

July 2, 2024
PACIS Pre-conference Workshop
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Submissions Due: May 5, 2024

Information Systems Journal will be holding the 4th ISJ Trending Topics
Workshop along with the 2024 Pacific-Asia Conference on Information Systems
at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, July 2,
2024, from 8:30am-12:00pm (UTC +7) as an in-person pre-conference workshop.
The workshop will once again be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing
those authors and editors who cannot travel to Vietnam to join virtually.

Workshop information:

ISJ welcomes research that spans across the diverse and interdisciplinary
IS field. We are interested in submissions that combine the latest
technological and digital innovations with the current context of business,
economy and society. We look for research that is based on solid
theoretical foundations and uses suitable research methods.

The paper development workshop promotes scholarship that focuses on
high-impact research on new trending topics in the IS field. We aim to
highlight the fast-growing technological developments, such as generative
AI, that affect business organizations and society, creating new
opportunities and difficulties, with more complexity and undesired
consequences of technology use. Workshop participants will discuss drafts
of their research work with ISJ editorial board members, and other workshop
participants. A list of topics of interest is provided in this call,
however submissions need not be limited to the list.

Following the workshop, participants are not obliged to submit their work
to ISJ, although the journal is a top-quality outlet that welcomes both
conceptual and empirical papers. An objective of the workshop is to provide
guidance for those papers that will receive feedback during the workshop
and will be ready for submission to ISJ for publication consideration soon
afterwards. In fact, we anticipate that a number of workshop papers will
eventually be published in the journal in the coming years.

Prior to the workshop, participants whose papers have been accepted for
discussion in the workshop, will receive one to three papers to read and
review for their roundtable. During the workshop, participants meet in
small groups where participants receive feedback from ISJ editorial board
members and provide feedback on other participants’ papers. Senior and
Associate Editors from the journal will facilitate the discussion so that
each participant has equal time to receive comments from the group’s
members.

Selection for the ISJ Trending Topics Workshop is competitive. This
workshop primarily seeks high-quality and high-impact research on trending
topics. To be considered, a paper must demonstrate a significant
contribution to IS research, with or without data. In keeping with the
objective of developing potential submissions to the journal the manuscript
should be in a stage of significant progress towards a potential submission.

We do not consider papers that are currently accepted, under review, or
under revision at other journals or conferences.

Topics of interest (include but are not limited to):
• Generative AI and Automation
• Digital transformation
• Social media and digital collaboration for political participation and
societal changes
• Implementation and value of big data and machine learning for
organizations
• Ethical issues, especially in the uses of big-data, algorithms, and design
• Consequences of Gig work arrangements on workers and society
• New organizing forms and business models enabled by platforms
• Dark side of technology including addiction, victimization, surveillance
• Social cyberwarfare and cybersecurity
