<p class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; line-height: normal;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";" lang="EN-GB">This special issue explores the
tenuous terrain of visual culture and image capture facilitated by new forms of
information and communication technologies. How have new multimedia platforms,
image capture and recording technologies facilitated event creation and
the communication of politics in the digital age? The convergence of
technologies and the ability to capture and upload images on the move makes the
body a site for image capture, surveillance and witnessing. This conjoining of
the corporeal body and mobile telephony provides new ways to communicate images
and to circulate them to a wider audience on the internet. The pervasive
circulation of still and moving images on the internet with multimedia
platforms and the creation of counter-sites of visual pleasure calls for a
re-examination of this visual culture where notions of the private and
public are re-configured and where consumption of images and videos can be
de-contextualised from the context of production providing a stage for new
forms of ritualization and commemoration. The issue will explore <a name="_GoBack"></a>the social, political and cultural impacts of this visual
culture in different societies and communities.</span></p>
