The college is poised for tremendous growth and opportunities as it prepares to move into Griffin Hall, a new $53 million, state-of-the-art, LEED certified building, in summer 2011. We seek a visionary leader and an effective administrator to lead the college in the next stages of its development. If you are a leader who is able to translate the possibilities for this cutting-edge and technologically advanced college into reality, we invite you to apply.

The College

In July 2005, Northern Kentucky University created the College of Informatics, realizing that traditional academic structures do not provide an optimal approach to the digital and information revolutions that are profoundly changing every aspect of human activity. The college has experienced tremendous progress and growth under its founding dean, Douglas Perry. It consists of three academic departments: Business Informatics (accredited by the AACSB), Communication, and Computer Science. This combination of disciplines allows the university to capitalize on opportunities created by the convergence and ubiquity of communication and information technologies, both in the workplace and in society at large. The College of Informatics has allowed the university to optimize resources by reducing redundancy in the curriculum, promoting the efficient use of technological assets, centralizing many outreach activities, and pursuing funding opportunities cooperatively. The college encourages cross-disciplinary collaborations among its diverse faculty, which serves as a resource for students and the community.

Today the College of Informatics has over 1,400 undergraduate majors and graduate students enrolled in its many programs. Each department offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees alongside a variety of certificate programs. Undergraduate advising is handled by an advising center with a staff of three. The college also houses an innovative outreach center, the Center for Applied Informatics (formerly known as the Infrastructure Management Institute), which provides a full range of information management and technology services to non-profit and for-profit organizations throughout the nation, and provides on-campus internship opportunities for students to work on external contract projects. The dean oversees a budget of approximately seven million dollars and is supported by four full-time staff members.

The Position

The dean is the chief executive officer of the college and works collaboratively with fellow administrators and with the college’s department chairs and directors.
