To bring about a renaissance of information technology that will address major challenges of sustainability and global competitiveness, it is imperative that we have human resources capable of creating and supporting new ways of implementing, appropriating, and using IT. To this end, the strategic management of IT talent and the IT workforce is critical. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>IT talent management involves looking forward to the future and planning today for the IT knowledge, skills, and capabilities that will be needed to enable and sustain the envisioned future. IT workforce management focuses on issues that affect the recruitment, retention, and development of current and future IT workers. IT talent and workforce management encompasses a broad range of research topics, particularly given the possible levels of analysis (e.g., individual, organizational, national, regional, global), settings (e.g., for-profit, not-for-profit, government), jobs (e.g., systems developers, programmers, project managers, CIOs), human capital investments (e.g., education, training) and outcomes (e.g., performance, satisfaction, sustainability, competency, diversity, economic value) available for study. However, despite the importance of these topics to our global future, they remain understudied in the information systems literature.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The purpose of this mini-track is to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of IT talent and workforce management research.
