Alongside their PhD research, scholars attend relevant courses and carry out joint research in the framework of an interdisciplinary seminar. The working language within the School is English, and theses may be written in either English or German.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><span lang=EN-GB style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><span lang=EN-GB style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'>Financed by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG), the scholarships amount to € 1.468,- per month for 30 months; in addition research and travel funds and – if applicable – teaching funds will be provided. Depending on a student’s academic background and research topic, the degree of Dr. rer. pol., Dr. rer. nat., Dr.-Ing., or Dr. iur. Recent research of members of the Graduate School covers, for example, the role of news in financial markets, auction-based approaches to controlling traffic flows, the trade-off between privacy and efficiency in electricity markets, as well as both technical and economic questions related to the next generation internet. A large share of students has an international background. Having completed their PhD, alumni of the School have shown to be successful both in industry and academia and have built a strong network within and beyond the Graduate School.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><span lang=EN-GB style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><span lang=EN-GB style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black'>Successful candidates will have an excellent academic record, including an advanced degree in one of the aforementioned disciplines, be fluent in English, and show a strong interest in interdisciplinary work. The university is committed to increasing the share of women in research and especially encourages female candidates to apply.
