communication technologies (ICT) offer significant possibilities to transform
almost every aspect of healthcare. To fully exploit the potential of healthcare
ICT, challenges must be overcome, and, as healthcare organizations move towards
patient-centered systems, opportunities in the provision of superior healthcare
services need to be recognized. </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-family:"Cambria","serif";color:#333333"><font size="4">The impact on
the healthcare sector of ICT initiatives, as in the form of e-health,
electronic medical records and healthcare portals, is not only considerable but
also far reaching. Despite widespread efforts to introduce IS to reform
clinical and non-clinical tasks, adoption in many countries is much slower than
planned in all levels of health provisioning: primary, secondary and tertiary. Consequently,
it is possible that there are incompatibilities, perceived or otherwise, with
the current technologies available to healthcare professionals. </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-family:"Cambria","serif";color:#333333"><font size="4">This track
aims to provide a common platform for discussion and presentation of original
research highlighting opportunities and challenges related to the role of IS in
delivering 21<sup>st</sup> century healthcare outcomes. We invite theoretical
and empirical submissions that leverage the multiple perspectives of ICT in the
healthcare sector. </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="font-family:"Cambria","serif";color:#333333"><font size="4">Full research
and research-in-progress papers are sought which address the inter-disciplinary
nature of opportunities and challenges in incorporating ICT in healthcare. A
cross-national focus will be particularly sought suggesting that IS development,
implementation and management may need to be addressed more widely than simply
