mso-bidi-font-size:12.0pt">Emerging markets include the BRICS countries
(Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and Mexico, Argentina, South
Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia and Turkey amongst others.<span style="mso-spacerun:
yes"> </span>These emerging market countries are poised for explosive
growth: although these markets currently account for approximately 20 percent
of the world's economy, Van Agtmael (2007) [1] <a style="mso-footnote-id:ftn" href="#_ftn1" name="_ftnref" title=""><span class="MsoFootnoteReference"><span style="mso-special-character:footnote"></span></span></a>
predicts that this figure will grow to 50 percent within 25 years. Although these
countries are enthusiastically adopting and adapting ICTs to solve their
real-world problems but they also have different requirements and pose unique
challenges compared to the mature, developed countries. Conversely, the
developed economies can also benefit from understanding the innovative uses to
which ICT is put, for example, mobile phone-based money transfer. Increasing
our understanding of the possibilities and limitations of ICT and how to
promote its adoption, adaptation and use in emerging markets is therefore of
vital interest to information systems researchers and practitioners. The
objective of this mini-track is to encourage reflection and redefinition of
emerging market countries’ digital futures by providing a forum for interested
authors to disseminate their research, compare results, and exchange ideas. Topics
