</p><p>The information systems (IS) field is relatively young in
Bangladesh and growing quickly. AIS leaders in the country proactively
established an AIS chapter to address the needs of local IS academics and
professionals. AIS Bangladesh will contribute to the application of IS
towards national-regional-local development in Bangladesh, develop locally
relevant course material. AISB plans to eventually run training courses for
academicians, policymakers, researchers, donor agencies, NGO workers, and
local government officials involved with IS operation/study.
</p><p>The Bangladesh IS community initially decided to form an AIS
chapter in November 2012. The AIS Executive Committee approved the formation
of AISB in April 2013. Membership will be open to all AIS members in good
standing who either live or work in Bangladesh, or who have a special
relationship to Bangladesh IS researchers or IS research institutions.

University of Dhaka.
</p><p>In addition to local meetings and seminars, events at AIS
conferences, and local research networks, AISB plans to pursue the
establishment of a Micro-Enterprise IS Business Incubator to assist aspiring
entrepreneurs in rural areas establish and grow viable IS-related ventures.
Further, they are planning to arrange a National Conference on Information
Systems for
the first time in Bangladesh at the end of this year. This will
be followed by a
