The MDM Ph.D. Forum provides an opportunity for Ph.D. students in the field of <br>
mobile data management to present their dissertation research, including <br>
work in progress, to an internationally renowned audience of researchers <br>
and developers. The topics of interest are the same as those of the main<br>
MDM conference. To encourage interaction between Ph.D. students and<br>
researchers from academia, industry, and government, the Forum will be<br>
mainly organized as a poster session. If the conference schedule permits it, <br>
before the poster session there will also be a (part of a) regular session<br>
with brief presentations by the Ph.D. students. Short position papers on <br>
the thesis work will appear in the conference proceedings <br>
<br>
Current Ph.D. students, as well as researchers who completed their Ph.D. <br>
dissertations in the last year (that is, since July 2013), are encouraged <br>
to submit short papers. The submitted paper should clearly state: <br>
<br>
- The original key idea / hypothesis of the thesis<br>
- The problem domain and the specific problem addressed<br>
- An overview of related work in the area of the Ph.D. work<br>
- Methodological approach<br>
- Research that has been carried out<br>
- The expected or achieved contributions (in line with the field of MDM)<br>
<br>
The main objective of the Ph.D. Forum is to offer an opportunity to the Ph.D. <br>
students to receive high-quality feedback from external reviewers and to <br>
directly interact with peers, exchange ideas, discuss concepts, and establish <br>
(in)formal cooperation with various research groups.<br>
<br>
Submissions should be at most 4 pages long and follow the IEEE camera-ready <br>
format used for the main MDM conference papers. More information and links to <br>
templates can be found from the MDM 2014 web page (http://mdmconferences.org/mdm2014/).<br>
Submissions in PDF should be uploaded to the conference submission website at: <br>
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mdm2014phdforum.<br>
Since this is expected to be a work conducted by the Ph.D. students, <br>
we request that:<br>
1. The sole author is a Ph.D. student who is mainly responsible for conducting
<br>
the research on the respective topic.<br>
2. In addition, the name of the advisor should appear, preceded by "Advisor:"<br>
<br>
The colloquium chairs will arrange the selection of the accepted papers using a <br>
peer review process. The accepted thesis position papers will be published in <br>
the MDM 2014 proceedings. The author is expected to register for the conference, <br>
to give a short presentation at the corresponding session and to present the work
<br>
in a poster session.<br>
