<div>About PESOS 2014</div>

<div>PESOS has established itself as a forum that brings together software</div>
<div>engineering researchers and practitioners working in the areas of</div>
<div>service-oriented systems to discuss research challenges, new</div>
<div>developments and applications, as well as methods, techniques,</div>
<div>experiences, and tools to support engineering, evolution and adaptation</div>
<div>of service- oriented systems. The technical advances and growing</div>
<div>adaption of the Cloud computing is creating new challenges for the PESOS</div>
<div>community to explore approaches to better engineer software-intensive</div>
<div>systems that are designed, developed, operated and governed in the</div>
<div>context of the Cloud. This year's forum seeks high-quality reports</div>
<div>that provide insight into better approaches to take full advantage of</div>
<div>the qualities offered by cloud infrastructures, or to account for lack</div>
<div>of full control over important software quality attributes. </div>

<div>Cloud Computing is shaping the way that organizations acquire and use</div>
<div>systems -- software-as-a-service (SaaS) model -- and how they</div>
<div>develop and deploy systems -- platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and</div>
<div>infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) models. This emerging computing</div>
<div>paradigm is having a significant impact on the way modern software is</div>
<div>designed, developed, deployed and governed. Even though cloud platforms</div>
<div>and infrastructures are typically designed to scale on demand, the</div>
<div>question is whether this automatic elasticity translates to all services</div>
<div>deployed on them. Other qualities of concern and interest in this</div>
<div>environment include monitorability, manageability, privacy, security,</div>
<div>availability and reliability. Software-intensive services in the cloud</div>
<div>will have to be better engineered, to either take advantage of the</div>
<div>qualities offered by cloud platforms and infrastructures or to account</div>
<div>for lack of full control over important quality attributes. There are</div>
<div>therefore a number of open software engineering research challenges</div>
<div>related to design, development, deployment, use, and integration of</div>
<div>software and cloud services.</div>

<div>Started at PESOS 2012 as a special session, we are now making it an</div>
<div>essential part of the workshop as the forum for researchers and</div>
<div>practitioners sharing this vision and willing to contribute with their</div>
<div>effort and experience. The goal is to create the reference set of case</div>
<div>studies for the research community in service-oriented systems, hosted</div>
<div>on a publicly available repository:</div>

<div>The submission and review process will be done using EasyChair</div>

<div>IEEE formatting guidelines. All accepted papers will be published in the</div>
<div>conference electronic proceedings and in both ACM Digital Library and</div>
<div>IEEE Digital Library.</div>

<div>All contributions will be reviewed and evaluated based on originality,</div>
<div>technical quality and relevance to the workshop theme. The page limit</div>
<div>for regular papers is 10 pages and 2 pages for case study descriptions.</div>
<div>In addition, accepted case study submissions must commit to place all</div>
<div>case study artifacts in the public repository.</div>
