48th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences<br>January 5-8, 2015<br>Grand Hyatt, Kauai<br><br><a href="http://www.hicss.hawaii.edu" target="_blank">www.hicss.hawaii.edu</a><br><br>HICSS derives its reputation from high quality papers, active discussions and interaction that the conference structure facilitates. These SWT sessions held on the first day as half-day oar full-day sessions may explore, discuss, document, and/or add to the literature base on a topic. Invited authors may present papers that are still in development and not ready for publication. <br>
<br>Symposium: A Symposium is a meeting at which several specialists may deliver short talks on the title topic. The session consists primarily of presentations by persons distinguished in the area of research. Also, there may be panel discussions to summarize or encourage a particular research area. A symposium will have a well-defined agenda, specifically allowing for questions and discussion toward the end of the session.<br>
<br>Workshop: A Workshop, as the name implies, involves "work" by those who attend. The structure may include a few paper presentations, talks, or panels, but, will primarily involve a collaborative activity that will advance thinking and discover new insights, often about a relatively immature area of research. Workshop leaders may structure their session as they desire, which may include inviting specific contributors, or a more general call for contributions. The goal should be specifically defined in the description of the workshop. The output could be a state-of-the-art report, a taxonomy, a research framework, a survey, a research agenda, or some other study that in some way advances the field.<br>
<br>Tutorial: A tutorial is a gathering that is cross-disciplinary in nature and that aims to give participants a brief overview of the subject matter. Some tutorials may be actually advanced seminars that are an in-depth survey of the topic for those who already have significant background in the area under discussion.<br>
<br>Submission Instructions: <br>1. Submit a formal proposal to be considered. No symposium, workshop, or a tutorial will be accepted without a formal written proposal. <br>2. Proposals for HICSS should be sent to <a href="mailto:hicss@hawaii.edu" target="_blank">hicss@hawaii.edu</a> no later than February 28, 2014. Note: We accept MSWord files only. Please do not send latex, postscript or pdf files.<br>
3. The Conference Chair(s) will evaluate each proposal (with consultation from various track chairs). The final decisions are based on the overall merit of the proposal. Notification is by March 15, 2014. <br><br>Proposal Contents:<br>
1. Title as you want it defined in conference materials, including program and web site.<br>2. Specify clearly that your proposal is intended as either a symposium, a workshop, or a tutorial, and whether it is to be a full- or a half-day session. <br>
3. Define the proposed subject. Discuss the topics the session will address, and how they fit the area of research.<br>4. Discuss how these topics have recently been covered in other conferences and publications in order to substantiate that HICSS is an appropriate and timely forum for the topics.<br>
5. A short paragraph describing the topics of your session. If your proposal is accepted, this description will be included on the HICSS website.<br>6. Names and full mailing address, direct phone number, departmental phone number and fax, and email address for all leaders. Please specify your lead contact at 'Primary'.<br>
7. A short bio-sketch of each leader. This is especially important for first-time presenters, or if your bio needs updating. (We reserve the right to edit for a length or clarity.)<br>8. An explicit statement that your organization endorses your involvement and that it will pay for your travel and registration cost to attend HICSS. <br>
