<h3>Motivation</h3>
<p>Modern enterprises face a strong pressure to increase agility and
competitiveness, to operate on the global market, and to engage in
manifold alliances. However, the vast majority of strategic initiatives
in enterprises fail, meaning that enterprises are unable to gain
success from their strategy. The key reason for these failures is the
lack of coherence and consistency among the various components of an
enterprise. At the same time, the need to operate as a unified and
integrated whole is becoming increasingly important. Currently, these
challenges are dominantly addressed from a functional or managerial
perspective, as advocated by the management and organization sciences,
and as implemented in MBA programs. Such knowledge is indeed necessary
for managing an enterprise, but it is inadequate for bringing about
changes in a fully systematic and integrated way. To do that, one needs
to take a constructional or engineering perspective.</p>
<p>In addition, both organizations and software applications are
complex systems, prone to entropy. This means that in the course of
time, the costs of bringing about similar changes increase in a way
that is known as combinatorial explosion. Entropy can be reduced and
managed effectively through modular design based on atomic elements.</p>
<p>Lastly, the individual persons in an enterprise, in cooperation, are
ultimately responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the
enterprise. They are also collectively responsible for the evolution of
the enterprise, in order to meet new challenges. These responsibilities
can only be borne if members have an appropriate knowledge and an
effective awareness of the construction of the enterprise given by a
sound engineering approach.</p>
<h3>Goals and Scope</h3>
The workshop's primary goal is promoting active discussions centered on
theories and methods for the discipline of Enterprise Engineering (EE).
We seek to develop a foundation of sound theories over which
methodologies can be built and used to effectively engineer and manage
enterprises. Hence our main scope is on the presentation, discussion
and evolution of EE theories and/or methods. These can be: (1) inspired
or related to the postulates of the
“Enterprise Engineering Manifesto” and/or the principles in the paper
“A discipline
of Enterprise Engineering” as proposed by members of the <a href="http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?id=fU0KSlUGTlBX" >CIAO! research
network</a>; or (2) other original EE theories and/or methods. The
CIAO! network aims
at disseminating and developing EE with sound theories as a base and,
with this workshop, seeks
constructive discussion within the network itself and with other groups
and individuals interested to contribute to the body of knowledge of
the EE discipline.<br>
<h3>Submissions<br>
</h3>
Currently proposed EE-theories by the CIAO! network are divided in four
categories: philosophical, ontological, ideological and technological.
The <a href="http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?id=fU0GAxoABx1SDQ" >CIAO! internet forum</a>
provides research documentation for download
as well as an active discussion forum on topics related to these
theories and other EE topics.<br>

Having this context in mind, we look for submissions of research papers
of three types: (1) that
improve current CIAO! EE-theories or propose other EE-theories that
enrich the EE discipline; (2) that propose methods based on CIAO! or
other EE-theories; and (3) application or usage of CIAO! or other
EE-theories.<br>
<h3>
Journal Publication</h3>
<p>Authors of the best papers will be invited to submit extended and
revised versions of their work to a <span style="font-style: italic;">Special
Issue on Enterprise Engineering Theories and Methods</span> of the
<a href="http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?id=fU0HDxoABx1SDQ" >International
Journal on Organization Design and Engineering</a> (IJODE). These
extended papers will be target of a new peer review process.</p>

Papers have to be submitted in PDF format. The results described must
be unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. Submissions must
conform to IEEE camera-ready format and should not exceed 10 pages,
including all text, figures, references and appendices. Three to five
keywords characterizing the paper should be indicated at the end of the
abstract.

and upload your paper taking in account the dates specified below.<br>

<p>Important note: Since the review process is double-blind, please
make sure that your names and affiliations are not listed in the paper
submitted for review!</p>

<h3>Workshop format<br>
</h3>
The workshop will prioritize discussion time over presentation time.<br>
<br>
We aim either for a half-day workshop session with 4 paper
presentations or for a full day with 8 to 10 paper presentations.<br>
<br>
The first or only session will have the following structure:<br>
<ul>
<li>Workshop opening (10 min) - presentation of workshop goals,
topics and format; short introduction of all workshop participants</li>
<li>Paper presentations - (120 min) 4 papers with 30 min/paper (20
min presentation + 10 min Q&A)</li>
<li>Coffee-break (20 min)</li>
<li>Keynote address (30 min: 25 min presentation + 5 min Q&A)</li>
<li>Round-table discussion - 60 min</li>
</ul>
In case there are sufficient papers for a full day workshop, then the
second session will share a similar structure: more paper presentations
and another keynote address followed by another round table discussion.<br>
<br>
The round-table discussion(s) will be previously prepared by the
organizers and will be directed towards addressing a set of of topics
posted on the workshop website beforehand and, if possible, related
with the papers to be presented. The keynote address presentation(s)
will also, if possible, be adjusted to the topics of interest target of
the workshop's papers so that the round-table discussions following
them are lively and informed. Moreover, the presented papers will be
also distributed beforehand to all registered workshop participants to
foster discussion and promoting a spirited discussion giving body to
this workshop's goals.<br>
