The purpose of the workshop is to provide a forum for discussion and interaction among scholars with research interests in the cutting edge issues of information technologies and systems. The theme of WITS’14 is “<b>Value Creation from Innovative Technologies</b>”<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-top:9.0pt;text-align:justify;line-height:150%'>Ever since its inception, technology has always played a critical role in the global economy. Over the last decade or so, rapid pace of technology advancements has created both challenges and opportunities for business, governments, and society as whole. Newer and innovative technologies, often disruptive, have facilitated both tactical and strategic decision making by helping users collect, mine and analyze a large amount of data. Availability of this large data is continuing to transform every aspect of organizational processes and decision making. Since technologies facilitate low cost data collection, organizations have troves of data, also termed as Big Data, that needs to be managed, mined and analyzed carefully to create value for all stakeholders. This becomes even more crucial because the large amount of detailed data poses security and privacy challenges for stakeholders. At issue is developing capabilities to design solutions by leveraging innovative technologies and big data to create value for all the stakeholders. Since it is a workshop, WITS also actively solicits papers describing novel research ideas that may be at a relatively early stage of development.
