<b>1. The IDIA Conference</b><br>
<br>
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The conference is aimed at researchers, policy-makers and reflective practitioners. There is usually a strong presence from the South-South research community.<br>
<br>
Papers will be double-blind peer-reviewed and accepted papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings. Only papers of participants who have paid the full conference fee will be included in the Proceedings.<br>
<br>
Conference proceedings will be distributed at the conference, and made available online to participants. A volume of the Proceedings in book form is a possibility, as was done for the IDIA2014 conference.<br>
<br>
<b>2. Theme overview</b><br>
<br>
During the IDIA2014 Conference held in Part Elizabeth, South Africa, participants expressed some disillusionment with the ICT4D world. On one hand little progress seems to be made despite promises, and on the other hand, this field of research does not seem
to progress beyond practice to high-level models, let alone theory. There was consensus that we need to shift gears.<br>
<br>
ICT4D is strongly Euro-American driven, with little original thought from the African and other developing soils. It is time that those-being-developed take control of our own futures by developing our own models, theories and projects – perhaps along the lines
of de-growth (Escobar, Latouche). There are too many isolated, independent ICT4D projects taking no cognizance of other views or projects. We do not learn from one another.<br>
<br>
The conference will have three streams: theoretical stream, practical stream, and student/new researcher /post-graduate colloquiem stream.<br>
<br>
<b>2.1 Theory</b><br>
<br>
Preference will be given to papers addressing theoretical paradigms, and novel approaches to ICT4D. Supporting arguments will be important, and proposed models should be rigorously constructed on solid scientific footing. Project-dependent data and arguments
should fit into some theoretical framework. This means that the foci of papers that deal with hard data, should express how such data corroborate/justify/validate/strengthen or refute/weaken some or other theoretical position.<br>
<br>
<b>2.2 Practice</b><br>
<br>
Papers reporting on ICT4D projects will be accepted. However, please take care to distinguish between the writing styles of a project report, and an academic research paper that requires dialogue about the project from a critical perspective. Embed reports
within frameworks such as Action Research or Design Science, or other.<br>
New researchers / student submissions / post-graduate colloquium<br>
<br>
Sessions will be available for "young" researchers presenting extracts from the Honours, Masters or PhD theses.<br>
<br>
<b>3. Calls</b><br>
<b>Call for Full Papers</b><br>
<br>
Full Papers will be evaluated via double-blind peer review by a multidisciplinary panel. Full Papers will be evaluated according to their novel research contribution, methodological soundness, theoretical framing and reference to related work, quality of analysis,
and quality of writing and presentation. Manuscripts considering novel designs, new technologies, project assessments, policy analyses, impact studies, theoretical contributions, social issues around ICT and development, and so forth will be considered. Well-analyzed
results from which generalizable conclusions can be drawn are also sought. Authors are encouraged to address the diversity of approaches in their research by providing context, implications, and actionable guidance to researchers and practitioners beyond the
authors’ primary domains.<br>
<br>
Only original, unpublished, research papers in English will be considered. Papers must use the templates available on the submissions page, and must be no longer than 10 pages.<br>
<br>
Submissions longer than 10 pages, not in the template format, not related to the conference themes, and/or not meeting a minimum bar of academic research writing will be rejected without full review. See requirements details.<br>
<br>
<b>Call for Panels</b><br>
<br>
You are welcome to submit proposals for a panel discussion. A summary article of the panel discussion is expected to be submitted after the conference, for publication on the IDIA website, and perhaps a journal too.<br>
<br>
Kindly submit possible themes, names of panelists and their affiliations.<br>
<b><br>
Call for Workshops</b><br>
<br>
You are welcome to submit proposals for a workshop. This is usually very helpful for practitioners. Ideally there should be some formal output - e.g. article, book.<br>
<br>
<b>Call for post-graduate colloquium</b><br>
<br>
We are trying to develop promising young researchers. We hope to receive submissions based on extracts from Honours/Masters/PhD theses in progress. A Work-in-Progress volume will be published online on the IDIA website.<br>
