Seventh EUSSET International Summer School on Computer Supported Cooperative Work

- About -
The International Summer School on Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) organised by the European Society for Socially Embedded Technologies (EUSSET) is a forum for young researchers (PhD or post-doc) to deepen their understanding of CSCW as a research field and community. The interaction among the participants (both teachers and students) will promote the generation of new ideas and their confrontation with the experiences they have acquired in their field research.

- Aims and scope –
After the introduction of the acronym CSCW in the late 1980s the themes connected with the understanding of collaborative work practices and the design of artefacts supporting collaboration have become pervasive in many scientific, business, and social discourses. The domains in which CSCW can inform sociotechnical design are constantly growing and changing. This asks for a continuous elaboration of the theoretical foundations of the underpinning disciplines through a reflection on the outcomes of the field studies, on the methods applied in the social and technological investigations and on the impact of the technologies on practices they are made part of. The combination of these perspectives should be the patrimony of any researcher who wants to grasp the complex and subtle issues that are involved in the CSCW research area.

- Program –

- Important dates –
  *   Application deadline: April 14, 2023
  *   Notification of acceptance: April 21, 2023
  *   Registration deadline: June 14, 2023

- Credits -
7,5 ECTS

- Location –
The summer school will be held at the Villa del Grumello, a nice villa close to Como, Italy. The centre of the town can be reached in a ten-minute walk along the border of the lake.

- Fees –
The registration fee for the course is 450€, not including accommodation.

- Application –

Applicants will be required to upload a one- to two-page CV and a one-page document describing their PhD topic, research approach and motivations to participate at the summer school. Both documents should be in PDF format.

- Accommodation –
The villa, where the summer school will be held, offers a limited number of rooms; however, a list of recommended accommodation will be provided in the school’s website, and participants may choose accommodation as they see fit.

- Visa –
International applicants might need a visiting student visa to come to Italy. Information about the required documents is available at the “Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs” (http://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/home/en). A request for a School Invitation Letter should be sent to summerschool at eusset.eu<mailto:summerschool at eusset.eu>. The request must contain all the necessary information along with a digitized copy of the identification page of the student passport (with name and photo).
