<b>Abstract: </b>The traditional academic mantra, longstanding in academia for the past 100 years or so, has been
<i>Publish or Perish</i>. Today, that has metamorphosed into a frenzy of <i>Submit/Submit/Submit
</i>or what could be termed<i> Spray and Pray! </i>Researchers seek to publish in particular journals in the first submit instance, pray for success, and cascade down if rejected. However, empirical evidence to support these journal rankings is lacking. It
is also clear that Generative-AI is exacerbating this problem. Some potential solutions to address this are advocated, notably around elevating paper reviewing to a first-class activity, and possible publication citizenship behaviour metrics (e.g., S-P Index)
are suggested.</div>

He holds a PhD from the University of London and his research interests lie primarily in software development, encompassing open source and inner source, crowdsourcing software development, agile and lean software development, and global software development.
His publications include 17 books, and over 170 peer-reviewed articles in the leading international journals and conferences in both the Information Systems and Software Engineering fields, including
<i>MIS Quarterly (MISQ), Information Systems Research (ISR), IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering (TSE)</i> and
<i>ACM Transactions on Software Engineering Methodology (TOSEM)</i>. He also serves as General Chair for the premier conferences in both disciplines, the
<i>37th International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS)</i>, held in Dublin in 2016, and the
<i>49th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE)</i>, to be held in Dublin in 2027.</div>
