Introduction
The vast majority of enterprise information systems (IS) were implemented
in the early days of computing by using the traditional paradigms and
implemented with a structured computer languages such as COBOL. However,
with recent developments, particularly the trends towards e-Commerce, ERP,
Customer Relationship Management and Supply chain management, many
companies are realizing that they will have to migrate to the new systems
to take advantages of these new challenges.
Although the management makes strategic decisions to implement the new
systems, such projects often fail for several reasons: the new systems are
quite expensive, involve a radical or unwanted changes to existing
processes, and often cumbersome to implement. In fact, it is possible to
perform reengineering of legacy systems and internal processes to reap up
the same benefits of new systems in a cost effective manner.
Objective of the Book
The main objective of the book will be to cover different techniques that
could be used in industry in order to reengineer internal processes and
the legacy systems into more flexible systems capable of supporting modern
trends such as ERP, Supply chain management systems and E-commerce.
