Facing the Challenges of Temporary External IS Project Personnel by Wilfred W. Wu, Robert W. Zmud
This article argues that viewing the use of external hires simply as a stop-gap measure can mask potential long-term impacts such as developing internal staff skill-sets, capturing knowledge from external hires and planning for future software development projects.
Switching IT Outsourcing Suppliers: Enhancing Transition Readiness by Siew Kien Sia, Wee Kiat Lim, Kanapaty Pelly Periasamy
This article examines on the management challenges associated with transitioning from one outsourcing supplier to another and highlights the actions an organization can take before, during, and at the end of an outsourcing arrangement to reap more benefits from the outsourcing market over the long run.
Service-Oriented Architecture: Myths, Realities, and a Maturity Model by Rudy Hirschheim, Richard Welke, Andrew Schwarz
This article suggests that there is a disconnect between the in-print prescriptions regarding SOA and what is actually happening; the majority of organizations in this study were using SOA as an IT architectural initiative rather than as a business transformation tool so most organizations did not see SOA as a vehicle for solving larger business needs.
Key Issues for IT Executives 2009: Difficult Economy’s Impact on IT by Jerry Luftman, Tal Ben-Zvi
Since its inception in 1980, the Society for Information Management (SIM) survey has helped IT leaders around the globe understand important issues and trends. The top five management concerns in 2009 were: 1. Business productivity and cost reduction; 2. IT and business alignment; 3. Business agility and speed to market; 4. Business process re-engineering; and 5. IT cost reduction.
