Designing User Studies in Informatics – A HICSS tutorial
Does your research or work involve research on or development of information technology with which people interact? Consider adding the user studies tutorial to your HICSS registration (tutorials are free at HCISS).
This is a half-day tutorial on Monday morning, January 7th.
Some good reasons to attend:
- Development and research of software, apps, information systems and interfaces benefit from user studies that can find weaknesses and highlight strengths.
- Journal papers, conference papers, grant proposals and dissertations are often strengthened by a well-designed and executed user study.
- Many of us need to teach this topic without a good set of slides or handbook. The tutorial is based on the book “Designing User Studies in Informatics” (by Gondy Leroy, Springer) and slides from the tutorial are made available for lectures.
- The tutorial approach:
o The first portion of the tutorial will include a fast-paced overview in 4 steps of the essentials of user study design.
o The last hour of the tutorial will be available for one-on-one, practical help. Attendees can send their questions in advance.
The complete tutorial description is available on the HICSS website at http://www.hicss.hawaii.edu/hicss_46/swt46/46swt.htm or directly at http://www.hicss.hawaii.edu/hicss_46/swt46/DesigningUser.pdf
