CfP for the HICSS-47 minitrack on Knowledge Management for innovation, agility and complexity management
This conference mini-track focuses on the contribution Knowledge Management makes to supporting organizational innovation, agility and complexity management. As the global economic environment continues to challenge, a fundamental transformation of Knowledge Management has been taking place in two directions: (1) exploring how the inflows and outflows of knowledge have expanded to accelerate internal innovation and expand the markets for external use of innovation, and (2) how Knowledge Management is used to support organizational agility and sustain business agility. These themes support alternative approach to organizing for innovation and organizational agility in an open environment with multiple participants and stakeholders. These are open to the exploration of the effectiveness of new methods and organizational structures for improving innovation and organizational agility by engaging a broader base of outside knowledge holders and raise important new issues about how
  knowledge is created and applied to derive business value, generate new ideas, and develop new products and solutions.
In line with this challenging research issue, the objective of this mini track is to draw appropriate papers on the broadest range of research methodologies including case studies, action research, experimentation, survey, and simulation.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

*         Knowledge, complexity and innovation

* Knowledge Management and open innovation models

DESCRIPTION

In today's competitive and highly dynamic environment, analyzing data to understand how the business is performing and to predict outcomes and trends has become critical. The traditional approach to reporting is no longer adequate. Instead users now demand easy-to-use intelligent platforms and applications capable of analyzing real-time data to provide insight and actionable information at the right time. The end goal is to support better and timelier decision making, enabled by the availability of up-to-date, high quality information.

Although there has been progress in this direction and many companies are introducing products towards meeting this goal, there is still a long way to go. In particular, the whole lifecycle of business intelligence requires innovative techniques and methodologies capable of dealing with the requirements imposed by these new generation of BI applications. From the capture of real-time business data to the transformation and delivery of actionable information, all the stages of the Business Intelligence (BI) cycle call for new algorithms and paradigms to support value-added functionalities. These functionalities include dynamic integration of real-time data feeds from operational sources, optimization and evolution of ETL transformations and analytical models, and dynamic generation of adaptive real-time dashboards, just to name a few.

The series of BIRTE workshops, starting in 2006, have always been held in conjunction with VLDB. The series aims to provide a forum to discuss topics related to this emerging field and set research directions towards making business intelligence more real-time. Following the success of previous BIRTE editions (2006, 2008-2012) submissions for research, industrial and position papers on relevant topics are encouraged.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

Areas of particular interest for the workshop include (but are not limited to) the following, as THEY RELATE TO REAL-TIME BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE:

-              Analytics as a service

- Analytics for Linked Data/semantic web

- Big Data systems and applications for high velocity data

- Data mining, analytics, and OLAP for real-time decision support

-              Data quality and cleansing

-              Event-driven analytics

- Integration of prediction models with real-time and historical data

- Integration of open and private data

- Linking business strategies with real-time BI

- Novel architectures for real-time BI

-              Optimization, performance and scalability

- Privacy and security in real-time BI

BPD2013 - 9th International Workshop on Business Process Design
http://www.bpd-workshops.com/

In conjunction with:
11th International Conference on Business Process Management (http://bpm2013.tsinghua.edu.cn)
26-30 August, 2013
Beijing, China

Paper submission deadline: 31st May 2013

Business Process Design is at the core of Business Process Management. As the most value-adding stage of the process lifecycle, it is dedicated to the development of improved and compliant business processes. Designing a process that improves corporate performance is a challenging task that requires multi-disciplinary expertise and a plethora of inputs (for example, organizational strategies, goals, constraints, human and technical capabilities, to name a few). However, unlike other well-defined and theory-grounded stages of the process lifecycle (e.g., process modeling), Business Process Design is scarcely understood, with little guidance detailing how or when to use a variety of improvement approaches. The lack of comprehensive research on Process Design limits the effectiveness of BPM professionals, who rely heavily on tacit knowledge and personal experiences in the absence of proven practices.

BPD2013 aims to bring together researchers and practitioners who have an interest in advancing the state of the art in Process Design. We seek contributions by authors who wish to share their innovative ideas and insightful observations. Two main categories of submissions will be considered: regular papers and industry papers.

The workshop focuses exclusively on aspects related to Process Design within the process lifecycle. This specialization excludes the well-researched process modeling and process execution. Within this specialized scope, topics of interest include but are not limited to:

* Process improvement methods, tools and techniques
* Process improvement objectives
* Process improvement patterns
* Process improvement measures and evaluation
* Process design in the cloud
* Process reference models
* Process innovation
* Open innovation and crowdsourcing based approaches to process improvement
* Process improvement approaches based on process mining
* Visualizing process designs
* Constraints in process design (e.g. legislative requirements, compliance)
* Process design governance
* Process design for emerging challenges (e.g. greening of processes)
* Human aspects (involvement, participation, acceptance) in process design
* Linking process design to organizational strategy and goals
* Success factors in process design

Paper Submission:
Only papers in English will be accepted, and the length of the paper must not exceed 12 pages. Papers should be submitted electronically via the EasyChair submission system at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bpd2013. For formatting instructions and further details please refer to the BPD2013 website: http://www.bpd-workshops.com/submission-instructions/

The 13th European Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work (ECSCW 2013)

21-25 September 2013, Paphos, Cyprus

http://www.ecscw2013.org/

Live demonstrations and videos form an important part of the technical conference
programme. Demonstrations of both research prototypes and commercial products by
those directly involved in developing the systems are welcomed. The purpose of
this track is to provide the authors with the ability to demonstrate their creative
designs and novel groupware developments, to describe more about their research and
results to interested delegates, and to involve them in discussions about their work,
exchanging ideas, providing feedback, as well as sharing work-in-progress.

Authors submitting a paper to ECSCW 2013 conference may consider submitting the same
work to Demos & Videos, for example if they want to provide a demonstration for an
accepted paper. Please note that a separate submission must be made.

The submissions for Demos & Videos must be related to the topics of interest of the
ECSCW 2013 main research tracks (http://ecscw2013.cs.ucy.ac.cy/index.php?p=CallForPapers).
Submissions should include a short two page paper, including all figures, references and
a 50 word max. abstract. It should explicitly state the contribution and originality of
the work, making it clear how it differs from significant prior work. A full literature
review is not required.

All submissions should be formatted according to the ECSCW formatting instructions:
(http://ecscw2013.cs.ucy.ac.cy/templates.zip) and submitted via EasyChair
(https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ecscw2013).

All submissions should be accompanied by an Exhibition Plan (in MSWord format),
describing technical requirements (e.g. exceptional power (V), dimensions and footprint
of exhibit (cm), lighting conditions, internet connectivity). A power strip (230V),
a poster board (A1), and an ordinary table will be provided. Additional equipment must
be supplied by the demonstrator unless explicitly confirmed otherwise by the organisers.

The Demos & Videos papers will be published in ECSCW 2013 Proceedings Volume 2
(previously known as the conference supplement). Volume 2 will be printed in the
Aarhus University, Department of Computer Science Report Series and will be available
in printed form for the conference participants as well as online.

                                               Abbey of Neumunster, Luxembourg

Description and Objectives
---------------------------
In the world of the Internet, the rapid growth and exponential use of digital medias leads to the emergence of virtual environments namely digital ecosystems composed of multiple and independent entities such as individuals, organizations, services, software and applications sharing one or several missions and focusing on the interactions and inter-relationships among them. The digital ecosystem exhibits self-organizing environments, thanks to the re-combination and evolution of its "digital components", in which resources provided by each entity are properly conserved, managed and used. The underlying resources mainly comprehend data management, innovative services, computational intelligence and self-organizing platforms. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of digital ecosystems and their characteristics, they are highly complex to study and design. This also leads to a poor understanding as to how managing resources will empower digital ecosystems to be innovative and val
 ue-creating. The application of Information Technologies has the potential to enable the understanding of how entities request resources and ultimately interact to create benefits and added-values, impacting business practices and knowledge. These technologies can be improved through novel techniques, models and methodologies for fields such as data management, web technologies, networking, security, human-computer interactions, artificial intelligence, e-services and self-organizing systems to support the establishment of digital ecosystems and manage their resources.

The International ACM Conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems (MEDES) aims to develop and bring together a diverse community from academia, research laboratories and industry interested in exploring the manifold challenges and issues related to resource management of Digital Ecosystems and how current approaches and technologies can be evolved and adapted to this end. The conference seeks related original research papers, industrial papers and proposals for demonstrations.

Dear colleagues,

We have developed a free-to-use prototypical web-based classroom response system at the University of Paderborn that we want to offer you for applications in teaching and research. The system is called PINGO (?Peer Instruction for very large groups?). Similar to the ask-the-audience life-line in "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?", students can be involved in the lecture by answering (conceptual) questions posed by the instructor using their Internet-enabled devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops etc.). PINGO may be used to implement constructivist teaching designs, such as Peer Instruction, Classwide discusions, Three-Questions Sequence approach and many others. We are working on extending PINGO (e.g., in terms of question formats) and want to use it also as an artifact to conduct experiments in the area of teaching and technology use. If you are interested in joining us, please do not hesitate to contact us. We plan to offer PINGO as open source in fall this year.

PINGO is currently offered in an English and a German version (Spanish will follow soon). PINGO is offered as a hosted service free of charge to universities world wide.

PINGO can be reached at http://pingo.upb.de.

A virtual tour that illustrates the features and how to use PINGO is offered at http://pingo.upb.de/?tour=true

To register as instructor, please follow http://pingo.upb.de/users/sign_up

The project website can be accessed at http://wiwi.uni-paderborn.de/en/dep3/winfo2/research/projects/paderborner-peer-instruction/
There, we also offer some instructional videos on peer instruction and the use of PINGO.

We are looking forward to your feedback on how to improve PINGO and hope that you will find it valuable for your own teaching.

Best regards
Dr. Wolfgang Reinhardt

Call for Papers
3rd International Workshop on Semantic Digital Archives (SDA)
in conjunction with the 17th Int. Conference on Theory and Practice of
Digital Libraries (TPDL)

26th September 2013 in Valetta, Malta

http://sda2013.dke-research.de
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OBJECTIVES:

The Semantic Digital Archives (SDA) workshop series fosters innovative
discussion of knowledge representation and knowledge management solutions
specifically designed for improving Archival Information Systems (AISs).
Novel applications of semantic Web technologies and Linked Data offer
possibilities to advance approaches to digital curation and preservation.

During the last quarter of a century the explosion in digital content
creation and use has transformed the relationship individuals and society
have with information. Therefore, sustainable long-term curation approaches
to our digital cultural heritage are essential. Handling digital content in
secure ways poses many socio-cultural and technological challenges.
Changing technologies and shifting user communities as well as the
increasing complexity of digital content being enriched with software and
multimedia attachments are a couple of examples. Addressing the obstacles
to curation and preservation is the central theme of the workshop. This
full day workshop is an exciting opportunity for collaboration and
cross-fertilization between the Digital Libraries, the Digital Preservation
