8th IDIA Conference

ICTs for inclusive communities in developing societies

IDIA2014 Conference

Port Elizabeth, South Africa

3-4 November 2014

Conference venue

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University,
Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Keynote speakers

To be announced

1. Call for Papers

We invite you to submit an abstract for a proposed paper in the area of
"ICTs for inclusive communities in developing societies", the theme of
the 8th International Development Informatics Association Conference:
IDIA 2014 to be held on 3- 4 November, 2014, in Port Elizabeth, South
Africa.

2. Theme overview

Virtually no community remains apart from ICTs, from economic
development to health care, education to governance, family life to
creative activities. Communities across the world interact with, are
affected by, and can shape and influence the design and usage of such
technologies. The IDIA conference is provides a platform to understand
these interactions, and to examine, critique, and refine the hope that
communities in developing societies can become inclusive whilst
enlisting ICTs. There are multidisciplinary challenges associated with
the engineering, application and adoption of ICTs in developing
societies and/or for development, with implications for design, usage,
policy, and practice.

3. Call for Full Papers

Full Papers will be evaluated via double-blind peer review by a
multidisciplinary panel. Full Papers will be evaluated according to
their novel research contribution, methodological soundness, theoretical
framing and reference to related work, quality of analysis, and quality
of writing and presentation. Manuscripts considering novel designs, new
technologies, project assessments, policy analyses, impact studies,
theoretical contributions, social issues around ICT and development, and
so forth will be considered. Well-analyzed results from which
generalizable conclusions can be drawn are also sought. Authors are
encouraged to address the diversity of approaches in their research by
providing context, implications, and actionable guidance to researchers
and practitioners beyond the authors’ primary domains.

Only original, unpublished, research papers in English will be
considered. Papers must use the templates available on the submissions
page, and must be no longer than 10 pages.

Submissions longer than 10 pages, not in the template format, not
related to the conference themes, and/or not meeting a minimum bar of
academic research writing will be rejected without full review. See
requirements details.
Call for Panels

You are welcome to submit proposals for a panel discussion. A summary
article of the panel discussion is expected to be submitted after the
conference, for publication on the IDIA website, and perhaps a journal too.

Kindly submit possible themes, names of panelists and their affiliations.
Call for Workshops

You are welcome to submit proposals for a workshop. This is usually very
helpful for practioners. Ideally there should be some formal output -
eg. article, book.

4. Research Exchange

A Research Exchange session is proposed. The purpose of this session is
for sharing current non-published work in progress research (i.e.
working papers, Ph.D, M.S. or academic non-degree-oriented research).

If interested, please indicate which date suits you best. Arrangements
will be made in time, and there is no extra fee if you are already
registered for the main conference.
