Weinvite submissions for the Research Methods Track at the 21thAmericas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) to be held in Puerto Rico onAugust 13-15, 2015. While the track is open to a wide range of submissionwe encourage submissions that focus on the processes and procedures by whichnew knowledge to the information systems field is discovered and created. This includes examples of innovative applicationsof methodological techniques as well as discourse and description of particularmethodological improvements.
Inaddition to the traditional Research Methods track submissions, as a new feature for 2015 we encouragesubmissions for presentations in two general areas:
· Demonstratinghow to use new and innovative methods applied to the IS field
· Demonstratingrecent advances or innovative applications of well-established methods appliedto the IS field.
Theintent is for the presenter to demonstrate the methodology, providing an example for attendees on how to use thesemethods. The submission (and presentation) should include the followinginformation:
· Overviewof what is innovative about the method
· Ifmethod is a variation of an existing method, how the author’s applicationof the method differs from prior use
· Whenthe method is appropriate
· Exampleof the method in use if appropriate
· Howto use the method
· Howto establish rigor and quality (e.g. Validity and reliability)
· Howthe method can be applied and used by others.
Important Dates:
January 5, 2015 – Manuscript submission opens
February 25, 2015 – Submission Deadline
May 5, 2015 – Final Decisions
Possiblesubmission topics include, but are not limited to:
Useof multiple methods in coordinated research streams or a single study
Examinationsof problems that have been historically viewedthrough particular approaches, such as experiments or surveys, but are bere-envisioned using other techniques
· Best, contingent, or recommended approaches to specificqualitative methods or quantitative methods
· What IS research learn from the recently developed methods usedin reference disciplines and what can it contribute to these and otherdisciplines;
· Whether theory matterswhen considering method i.e. are methods agnostic to theory
· Ethical considerations in research methods
· Use of software tools for data analysis, and related strategies
· Techniques for big data analysis
· Methodological and ethical considerations for the creation, sharing and reuse of large datasets from data available in the public domain.
