Two Open Full Time Renewable Lecturer Positions in Health Informatics

The College of Informatics (http://informatics.nku.edu) at Northern
Kentucky University invites applications for two non-tenure track,
full-time, lecturer positions in health informatics. The Health Informatics
Lecturer has responsibilities for teaching undergraduate classes in
face-to-face and online formats. They will also undertake additional
responsibilities, which may include advising students, administrative
activities in support of our programs, support of the health informatics
labs, and industry engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

The Health Informatics Lecturer’s primary responsibility will involve
teaching 4 – 8 classes over the full academic year, depending on offloads
for service (normal teaching load is 4-4). The class teaching load for each
position will be determined based on, for example, the amount of student
advising, administration, and/or lab support activities required.

Student advising responsibilities may include program admission, course
enrollment, industry projects and practicums, and graduation preparation.
Lab support activities may involve the selection, maintenance and support
of health informatics related software and equipment. In addition,
assistance with research grants and projects will be required as applicable.

The Health Informatics Program (health.nku.edu) resides in the Department
of Business Informatics and partners with the NKU College of Health
Professions and the College of Business to offer innovative
interdisciplinary curriculum and programs. The scope of health informatics
is based on a broad perspective of the application of information systems
in the health care industry. This also incorporates the practice of data
analytics and knowledge management across clinical healthcare and public
health domains. Established in 2007, the Health Informatics Program
includes a Master of Science in Health Informatics (MHI), a postgraduate
certificate, and an undergraduate minor. A Bachelor degree in Health
Informatics is also planned.

Started in 2005, the College of Informatics embraces the concept of
information in all its aspects: information management, business
informatics, health informatics, media informatics, and information
infrastructure, processing, presentation, dissemination, design and
analysis. The college unites the Departments of Business Informatics,
Computer Science and Communication.

Groundbreaking for a $97M Health Innovation Center will happen this fall,
and the health informatics programs will participate in this
trans-disciplinary center emphasizing population health.

Qualifications

Minimum qualification is a Master’s Degree in Health Information Systems or
related field (official transcripts will be required prior to employment)
and five years of professional health care industry relevant work
experience. Preferred qualifications are Ph.D. or ABD, again with
significant professional health care industry relevant work experience,
although research or outreach experience could augment that requirement.

In addition, the committee will apply a wide variety of characteristics
including, but not limited to: relevance of work experience relating to
health informatics with a preference for experience in the healthcare
industry; technology based education; technology based experience; teaching
experience in online and face-to-face formats; and project management
experience.

Applicants must submit a letter of introduction describing their interest
in the position and explaining how the applicant’s background and
experience satisfies the position qualification criteria.

Those interested in applying for this position should submit the letter of
introduction, resume, and at least three references (references will not be
contacted without prior consent of applicants) through the electronic
process of this posting.

Applications will be accepted and reviewed until these Health Informatics
Lecturer positions are filled. To receive full consideration, the
application should be submitted prior to April 15, 2015.
