Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is a young and dynamic university that offers a stimulating teaching and research environment with strong connections to business and industry. Based in New Zealand's largest city, AUT University has several campuses - in the heart of Auckland city, on the North Shore, and in South Auckland.

We have one vacancy for a senior IT academic to work within the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences (SECMS). The curricula span undergraduate (Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences) degrees and postgraduate programmes (Masters, MPhil and PhD).

The School will have some 2,700 equivalent full-time students and 160 academic staff. Growth is observable.  The School is seeking to appoint an academic with strong strategic leadership, management and development skills to take up the position of Head of Department by the end of October 2015. 

Appointments up to the academic rank of Professor are possible for candidates with recognised expertise in Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, Networking and Security, Information Retrieval, Human-Computer Interaction, IT Service Science, IT Project Management or other related areas. For the position advertised, we seek candidates with a PhD degree in Computer Science or Information Systems (or a closely related area) who have experience in and are able to lead and contribute to Information Technology as it relates to their specialist field.

The successful applicant will be expected to lead teaching, research and administration, including facilities developments, and research and project activities with industry partners. The position offer potential for future career development in university management roles. We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and dynamic person to fill the advertised role.

Significant experience in university environments and an ability to articulate a well-developed strategic vision for the Department are required for these roles. Successful engagement of staff in this journey is essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build strategic alliances within the Department, School, Faculty and wider University and with the outside community must also be demonstrated.
