December 2016 Special Issue

Submission deadline: MARCH 15, 2016

THE BUSINESS IMPACT OF DIGITAL DATA STREAMS AND THE INTERNET OF THINGS

We are pleased to announce that the December 2016 issue of MIS Quarterly Executive (MISQE) will be a special issue dedicated to research on the Business Impact of Digital Data Streams and the Internet of Things.

We encourage submissions based on in-depth case and/or field studies that analyze key business practices offering insights on what has proven to work. We also encourage submissions capturing novel analyses of DDS, whether in the public domain or proprietary, to tackle important problems like energy efficiency, healthcare, cybersecurity, and customer service.

Submissions viewed most favorably will be those based on original in-depth research that provides useful frameworks, proven practices, and rich illustrations of DDS that yield significant business payoff, or organizational impacts in nonprofit and government entities. Lessons learned should be generalizable for other executives. Papers could focus on (but are not limited to) the following themes:

- Innovative business uses of the Internet of Things and DDS
- DDS enabled innovative business models
- Unique decision-making opportunities and challenges of DDS
- Governance practices contributing to delivering value through DDS
- Overcoming privacy and security challenges associated with DDS
- Novel analytics opportunities unique to DDS
- DDS’s implications on enterprise architecture and IT infrastructure
- Identifying and selecting high-value DDS
- Identifying and selecting business relevant events in existing DDS
- Visualizing DDS for decision making
- Taxonomies and categorizations of high-value DDS
- Emerging IS skillsets required for DDS harvesting and exploitation
- The dark side of DDS: Risks, problems and negative impacts
- Ecosystem data sharing and DDS

Submissions to MISQE should be written for an IT executive readership and should describe practice-oriented research findings and guidelines. All authors are encouraged to look at prior published MISQE research articles for presentation models. All prior articles can be downloaded free by AIS and SIM members at: http://www.misqe.org . AIS members can also access MISQE articles via the AIS eLibrary.
